Oregon has been my favourite place on earth. There are many places like Oregon, but nothing beats the people, hikers, great souls you get to meet while hiking, exploring, or just camping for weeks. Absolutely lovely and soothing video to watch after a long day of stressful work. Thank you and happy exploring.

Be sure to grab a tide chart at your next town so, they're usually in the fishing stores, little grocery stores, many restaurants, lots of places. The charts will tell you the safe times to hike the beach crossings under the headlands. Please be careful. Quite a few people die each year trying to guess the safe crossing times, they get swept out to sea and some bodies are never recovered. There are also dangerous logs on the beaches that will roll in high tide with an unexpected high wave. I witnessed one young woman does this way, crushed under a beach log that spun over in three or four inches of water.

Of course it's hard to watch for a sneaker wave, it's right in the name . . . one of my worst mistakes was walking out on a ledge in the surf zone, I was lucky.

has Truman done the whole PCT so far? Did he do the Sierra Nevadas?? Thinking of bring my dog on my PCT hike next year
@blueboats75302 жыл бұрын
Dogs are not allowed in the National Parks and many Wilderness areas, so the High Sierra is off the table anyway. Truman got off trail at Kennedy Meadows South and did not resume the PCT until Sonora Pass. Given the snow levels, river crossings and bad weather it was for the best anyway.

For future viewers, do not sea ford around the headland. Every year, people die doing that.
@blueboats75302 жыл бұрын
Yeah, no fallen trees to grab onto there
@memathews2 жыл бұрын
I was going to say the same thing, too many people die each year in the coast by trying to cross at the wrong time. They need a tide chart.

What is Truman gonna do without his new best friends? I think some separation anxiety is ahead for four of y’all….the chowder at Luna Sea Fish House Yatchats is awesome. Y’all will walk by it as the 804 sect of OCT WILL take y’all through neighborhood to the little villageFYI…there is a Dollar General right there on 101 for resupply.

When I was a kid we camped right on the beach in cannon beach in the 70s before they built the town the way it looks today. We’d go clam digging for each or clams. They have some great coffee shops in CB. But the old haystack rock is really cool. It’s geologically from an eruption from the Yellowstone caldera. Pretty amazing volcanic rock. Much of the food in cannon beach is subpar cuz it’s too touristy. Our family got stuck in that same spot at high tide when I was a kid. My dad had to carry us kids across. Manzanita is where my uncle used to live. He lived right on the beach. My aunt lived at neakahnie. The puffins at haystack rock are pretty funny to watch fly. Nehalem is cool. Make sure not to miss clam chowder in tillamook at the sea food market across hwy 101 from the tillamook cheese factory. Snd you can get ice cream at the cheese factory. It’s called the Old Oregon Smokehouse.
@sam.and.moriah2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you had a great childhood! Cannon beach was very touristy but a fun town for us mountain folk haha. The rocks were so beautiful, we spent a lot of time watching the sea birds fly around it. You’re right, puffins are unmistakable and very silly looking when they fly! And unfortunately we missed the market at Tillamook, we were too full from all the ice cream and cheese!

You are really making this look like fun. When you get down to Yachats (pronounced like Yachts), I highly recommend Luna Sea Fish House for seafood and/or Yachats Brewing and Farmstore for beer and yummy fermented veggies, depending on what you want.

There was a ton of good, actual trail you missed there hitching between Arch Cape and Manzanita. One of my favorite sections of the OCT.
@sam.and.moriah2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the Neakhanie section of trail has been closed since 2020 due to storm damage so we went around it
@beyondbasecamp67162 жыл бұрын
Neakhanie is closed from the North but you can do it from the south - and worth it! Also, the section just past Arch that goes out to Elk Flatts and Shortys is really neat trail - so many roots like steps!
@beyondbasecamp67162 жыл бұрын
The boat rides are fun :) I've hiked the OCT as far south as Newport. The diversity is definitely one of the neatest parts of it.

There's no history for that WWII bunker because no Japanese ships ever came. There were surely worse duty postings, but imagine sitting there for months watching the ocean with nothing happening and no cell phones or internet.
