When backing up, steer with your hand holding the bottom of the steering wheel, then push in the direction you want the trailer to turn. Don’t be afraid to make big movements on the wheel because your steering tires are a long way from your static wheels of the trailer.
@magnusnordstrom39276 жыл бұрын
Actually, when backing up: 1. Unhook the trailer. 2. Push the trailer by hand. 3. Thank God you didn't kill that little old lady with your big awesome trailer.

Find an open parking lot and practice reversing your fantastic trailer. You don't want to dent it. I grew up on a farm and to me it's instinctive and easy through years of practice. Still, it doesn't always go right... learn to recognize that quickly, pull forward to correct, and try again. Don't just try to fix by over-steering. You'll jacknife in a hurry. For advanced students, try reversing a wagon, where the front wheels also articulate. That's meta. Reversing a fully loaded hay wagon into the barn, up a gangway ramp, guided by a spotter 'cause you can't see anything... yeah. I'm glad you have your new trailer!

Find an empty parking lot and just practice backing it up. Probably a harder task in the UK than in the states, but still the best advice I can give. Only way to learn is by doing it. Good luck!

I find backing with the mirrors much better than twisting your neck. Oh yes pro tip. If you don't have a backing camera, lean a broom against your tow bar of the trailer where it attaches to your van. You will eventually work out a spot on your vans back window where the broom handle is central to the back of your van. When the broom handle is pushed sideways you know you are nearly bang on to hook up.
@StupidRobotFightingLeague6 жыл бұрын
@@foodbusker no worries. It gives me a good view of the towball and tells me when I'm about to hit it. I can record a video if it needs clarification.

Practice moving a kids wagon first by hand then atached to a bike. Once you get the feeling of how it moves your golden. My friend who taught me how to drive made me do barrels in an SUV with a horse trailer on on even ground ... Once i got confident with that i had to do it all in reverse. But i knew the motion and reactions of the trailer so it all made sense.

I don't know about moving in reverse with a car but you could put a "mover" underneath it, which is an automated electrical motor to get it in place across, for instance, a market or fair without having to use your car. I have it on my caravan and it's perfect for moving it in small spaces.

Cracking looking truck Mr Q! When reversing, please do not give it big licks. This is a short vehicle and giving it large will cause it to fold up pretty quick! Find a nice empty car park and practice reversing in a straight line. A helper to keep an eye on things for you is a good idea. My credentials? 20 years of class 1 driving and 10 years class 2 prior to that, all in the Smoke!

Practice, practice, practice. I learnt how to back up a lawn tractor with a dump cart. If you can back up a little lawn dump cart, then it makes a truck and trailer easy. The most difficult thing with that trailer is that you can't see the far corner. You have to guess where the other side is based one what you know, or get out and look.

I did a trailer towing course with an ex police driving instructor for two days, did cost a fair bit, but he was amazing, the best thing I remember wasn't even to do with towing, just had position. I was always taught to put hands at 10 and 2, he suggested moving to 4 and 8, so much less shoulder and back issues as your arms are in a much more natural position, was really hard for me to start with as it felt unnatural and as if I couldn't control the vehicle as well I thought but after a bit was fine.

@RaezoR576 жыл бұрын
yeah baby! Been cooking for 50 years, love yer style. BTW about the trailer. Short distances between your towing hook and the back of the food truck will make reversing difficult. Basically, get wide out mirrors on your towing car and when you see the trailer in a mirror pull down on the steering wheel on the same side will keep you going straight . P.S. Put in a reserve gas hob with 2 rings and a propane tank might save yer bacon one day!
