I grew up in Mount Vernon NY in the 50 and60! Miss it till this day!

As a kid I grew up in Mt Vernon, I played baseball on that field 40 years ago.

Don't forget that the Cinderella Man, James J. Braddock, fought at Memorial Field in the 1930s...it was here that his boxing license was suspended for what was perceived as a "lack of effort." The reality, as shown in the movie of the same name, was that he was fighting with a broken hand...a real shame about Memorial Field...but happy it is being renovated...spent much time there in my youth!!!

Lot of history there. The Thanksgiving morning game between New Rochelle High and Iona Prep was played there and televised on NY WPIX. There was a semi pro football team that played there in the 60's. Yale great Chuck Mercine played there after being cut by The Giants because coach Allie Sherman didn't think Ivy Leaguers could play in the NFL. Vince Lombardi signed him late in the 67 season. Chuck made a critical pass on The Packers winning drive in the Ice Bowl. Stop at Lou's Hot Dog truck been parked around Memorial Stadium and Glover Field since the 1960's!

I used to go to New Rochelle vs. Mount Vernon High School games there.
