Episode #36: Can a traumatic life experience accelerate a Parkinson's diagnosis?

The Secret Life of Parkinson's: In 2020, Carrie Boorse was caring for her 14-year-old daughter who was diagnosed with cancer. During the 6 months of her daughter's chemo treatment, Carrie noticed something was off. Now that her daughter is cancer-free, Carrie started to focus on the pain and issues she noticed months earlier. Her doctor assured her that whatever she was feeling was probably due to the traumatic experience she just endured. But Carrie wasn't sold. That's when she met with a Neurologist...or three.

I really appreciate your channel. Your studio is beautiful and attractive. Very professional. The structure of your program is nicely polished. I hope you can keep this channel going. I have a ton of symptoms, starting back in 2015, but no motor symptoms. I have an appointment with an appropriate neurologist in two weeks. If the neurologist agrees that my symptoms are leading to a PD diagnosis the content of your program will be so much more meaningful. Thank you for this great program and your willingness to put so much effort into it.

There are a lot of people that don't have motor symptoms. Are you meeting with a Movement Disorder Specialist? Please know that if it is a PD diagnosis, there are things you can do to help live your best life. It's not a death sentence. No matter what, you will be the same person walking out of that Doctors office as you were walking in, but with an answer and a plan of what to do next! Good luck to you.

Great podcast guys thanks. I'm wondering if any of you thought of CBD oil to help with your pain discomfort and Parkinson's? I'm currently taking medication three times a day half a pill and Dhivy for stiffness and other symptoms related to Parkinson's features. But I'm not sure if it's still the best job. Your thoughts on CBD oil would be really appreciated. Thank you

I'm just getting started with treatment. It really sucks. I expected a miracle drug and it does work. However, I find myself vomiting alot. I am a rapper and it has started to effect my voice at times. I was hoping to stall that symptom out lol.

I found that taking the medication in very small increments reduced the nausea for me. For instance, I was supposed to take 3 pills each day of Sinemet, but in the beginning, I took half of 1 pill once a day for a few days, then I increased it to 2 half pills twice a day, then 3, then I slowly turned those half pills into full pills. I didn't have any issues when I did it that way. Just an idea!

Sorry, but you can't diagnosis Parkinson's in a 10 min visit. You have to rule out everything else with extensive diagnostic tests. Even then its really hard to be definitive with mere motor deficits.

There's a difference between a Dr. giving their first impression, and an actual diagnosis. Normally after giving their first impression they follow up with a differential diagnosis, or as in this case she end up at a movement disorder doc to do that part.

I was diagnosed after 30 minutes physical tests. I had doubt but I actually set up the appointment, so for me to deny it was pointless.
