Hi, I have a question on the PSA off center (oc) qualifier. I recently purchased a vintage 50's card. It has the PSA label consistent with the 2nd series of labels PSA had between about 1993-1999. It has an OC qualifier. I looked up the certification number and it matches the information in the PSA database. I'm concerned if the earlier cards, suppose it was graded in the early to mid 90's, could have been trimmed and not caught by PSA during that time period? There is a lot of border at the top of the card and the border is thin at the bottom of the card. I'm not sure if between about 1993-1999 PSA could determine if a card was trimmed or not, and just give it an OC grade?

The OC qualifier is supposed to be utilized based on specific standards at PSA- however just like grading in general it can be subjective at times. That being said sometimes you can crack an OC card out of the case and resubmit it or submit it to a different grading company and it won’t get that qualifier. The odds are it will either get that qualifier again or may come back as “trimmed” and therefore upgradable. So consider this if you decide to take a chance to crack and resubmit! I just received my card from PSA and it was not graded. The reason was mis cut. Can I return return for regrade with qualifier? Or just try BGS.

Thanks for watching! Usually they return it if it doesn’t meet minimum size requirements- and won’t refund you if so. You can always either try to resubmit it to see if another grader sees it differently or try another grading company but it’s a risk you’ll lose a second round of grading cost. Up to you! I just check my invoice, PSA did not charge me for the N6: miscut. They were all Stephen Curry rookie cards. They were decent grades. Thank you.

Miscut is different than minimum size requirements- you may have passed having qualifiers graded and slabbed with out realizing- I would call them up to ask

Can psa cards have multiple qualifiers. I haven’t seen one with 2 qualifiers but I also haven’t seen anything saying they dont

My understanding is that only one qualifier is possible- it’s a strange concept but PSA selects the one that is most apparent. If multiple qualifiers ...well ... qualify ... then It’s likely PSA will grade without qualifiers and it will just result in a very low grade.

I’m sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience- anytime you see a modifier always make sure to question it. It negatively impacts the value even if the grade says PSA 9 or 8 etc

It depends on the card- if it’s vintage I would take the 8 if it’s modern I’d probably take neither or if I had to pick one go with the 8
