Great video I agree the mining is the crucial part ! We visited panorama mine in Ontario lots of great amethyst there. They dump a bunch of good stuff and you get to go through it :)

That's funny. I got that from some royalty free youtube music. I am into the jazz and blues. I can't bring myself to change it. Who knows, maybe on the one year anniversary I will find a new one.....

Very good chat on sunstones. Please consider a video on imitation turquoise stones including howlite, faustite, variscite, etc. Your previous episodes have been very insightful and informative.

Tommy Lynch, I will be moving onto my property in Oregon high desert next year. Thought you might like to know that The Deschutes National Forest's stations have a flyer for rockhounding that is really helpful including Glass Mountain where you can harvest multiple types of obsidian (for free) if you have an interest in that sort of thing.

I thought Bonanza opal mine was in Nevada? Does it extend into Oregon or vise-versa? I know we have a bunch of opal mines up by Denio.

My apologies, Shawn. I had a brain cramp. We did visit the Bonanza Mine in Virgin Valley, Nevada. Then we continued into Oregon where they have both boulder opal and pink opals.

Thank you for your great lesson videos, Paul. May I ask how I can do a quick test to know if the semi-precious gemstones seller claimed to be "natural" are not just colored glass (e.g., amethyst, citrine, garnet, lapis, blue topaz, etc.). For example, for jadeite items, I just tried to scratch the surface with a pair of scissors.

Thanks for this video! Is it possible to do a lesson all about spinel? And how to tell the difference between spinel and other colored gemstones like ruby. Or is it ruby? Or a type of ruby? Are they super rare/valuable? Thank you!!

Sunstone... Stone of Happiness and Leadership -like the rays of the sun it illuminates things around it promoting joy, energy and optimism - dissolves depression, irritability, seasonal sadness. Lifts up the spirits - safe in water and in the sun - 6.0 - 6.5 in hardness scale - charge it in the sun preferably sunrise. Place it in the East corner to attract happiness, fortune and luck - best to program it on a Sunday - comes from many places including Greece Norway India China Australia and USA - good for joint pains - side effects... Makes you blindly optimistic, can be draining for people sensitive to energy - perfect for introverts, helps them from being drained around people and giving a sense of companionship - also called Heliolite from the Greek God Helios, God of the Sun
