I love all the shawls. I am a crocheter of +50 years and only have been knitting for 3. Only since my son went into the Navy. Concentrating on something new kept the worries away a little bit. Thank you for all the nature scenes. Eventually I want to make a lace weight shawl in knit...thank you.

Hi Selma, I've taken up knitting again after 10 years. I do agree with you about the ribbing in smaller needles. I remember doing that with all sweaters. Oh how we differ. I love lace, but to crochet. and i love to knit but cables and yes textured. I love your colour work. I really admire it. I do not think that I'll be able to do it. I think it might be difficult. I've done it before and it did come out great. But not in very thin yarn. Well i find that one may be doing something a certain way and then if you see someone doing something enough times, it sort of convinces you to try something. I absolutely LOVE that Kallara shawl. I love the colour and it seems like something I would like to make to get back into knitting. Love, love, love how it looks on you. This was a fantastic podcast. All those beautiful shawls. Love it. And I love the footage at the end. What beautiful surroundings. Stay safe. xo

Thank you Selma for sharing your beautiful shawls. My goal with learning to knit was socks sweaters and colorwork Christmas stockings. I'd heard that you needed to knit both ways for colorwork so I taught myself continental first, having done crochet as a child, and then English. Second project was socks and then a flax sweater and last year Christmas stockings! Over these last couple of years I've learned so much and it has brought me such joy and comfort.

Once again a lovely podcast of sharing. I made the S. West ES shawl, ( have to get out my winter items as you made me remember this piece)..... I forgot. I used to make all the Rowan- Debbie Bliss pattern work/ section work and love these pieces. Shy to do color work as my tension drove me nuts. Finally fast forward I began doing less “panel” pieces and began bottom up/top down and fell in love. About that time I got Grand kids and knits for them in this dimension was quick. I made the Soldonta Sweater /C.Hunter... and found my Left hand and Right hand working these yarns at same time a lovely rhythm. So color work I no longer fear. Thank you for a peaceful time knitting today.

Your collection of shawls is very impressive, Selma! I love how you have a good mix of various designers and lacy and non lacy ones too. I have saved a few of them in my favourites and shall knit them someday. I have started binge watching your podcasts and I am enjoying each one of them. Great podcasts and very inspiring too! As far as colorwork is concerned it's in my must knit queue, especially colorwork yokes as in Icelandic sweaters. I shall knit them soon someday.

Hello, I have just found you here. I'm not usually viewing youTube but have found it lately and it has been a great adventure. My son is 55 and I knitted colourwork for him at four years old. Each of my four children have had some colourwork when I had the time. During the quarantine time here in Australia I have followed Arne n Carlos, they chose colourwork squares to keep us occupied. It has been great to continue the practice of colourwork. My blanket is 8 squares wide and will finish at 9 rows long. The Knitting Expat has done some wonderful work. I would love her great book of patterns. Having found your youTube episode today I will follow you. Your shawls are just so fabulous, especially Stephen West designs. Thank you.

What fun. As far as colorwork.......I do like it....made some fingerless gloves using music motif for my singer sister. The pictures you showed of Mina Phillips cowls demand another project on the needles. Thank you for this episode; going to look back on your others; in addition to a ton of information, your voice is very comforting....

You came up as a recommendation on my KZbin feed and I am so happy to have found you! Your knitting is beautiful and I really enjoyed seeing the shawl parade. Color work.... I'm on the fence. I just finished my first color work sweater. It wasn't complicated as there were only two colors being worked at a time with a very short float but my hands just couldn't get the hang of the two colors. I was so relieved when I was finished! I love the product so maybe I'll go on a hunt for a good tutorial. Happy knitting!!

I am inspire to give color work a try with yoke sweater. I knitted a northern star hat. I had a tough time tami g the yarn which seems to tangle all the tine. I even bought a gadget that help s to keep the yarn more manageable. Like you, I don’t mind some color work and cable at the yoke, but not throughout the sweater. So happy you uploaded on this otherwise gloomy rainy morning! It is such an awesome way to start the day on a happy note! Thanks for the awesome talk on shawls. I knitted the Ashton shawl by Dee O’Keefe. I didn’t understand the charts, some of instructions were not clear, ripped out numerous parts, and tons of mistakes. I finished and contemplating frogging completely. It was supposed to be a shawl to wear to my son’s wedding. The yarn was too heavy and had too many mistakes. I really loved the shawls you’ve knitted! ❤️❤️👍👍🌟🌟👏👏😊😊

What a beautiful collection of cowls! Colorwork...I think I have always loved colorwork! I dove into a colorwork hat when I first began knitting, not really “knowing” that colorwork was difficult yet, lol! It’s always been mesmerizing to me, the idea of seeing how different colors play with each other and the different moods you can create, just by changing one out. It is a little slower and I oftentimes think, “my next project is going to be one color so I can zoom through”, but invariably I almost always choose another colorwork project

Thanks for the episode, just as inspirational as always :-) When it comes to colorwork I love stranded knitting with mostly repetitive repeats, then I get into the zone and relax. More complex ( non-repetitive) colorwork is fun, but I need to be able to concentrate to do that - so not that much. At the moment I'm knitting a "Bovertun" - a Norwegian kofte/cardigan and I'll be casting on for a "Fana kofte" when I'm finished with that. I'm also knitting a Icelandic yoked colorwork sweater too - and these colorworks are also often repeats that are easy to memorize.

Mesopotamia is the region in the Middle East between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Mesopotamia, today's Iraq, northeastern Syria, southeastern Turkey and southwestern Anatolia Region is composed of the Iranian territory. I am Turkish and Anatolian and Iranian cultures are very similar. Multicolor is also present in our. Actually this is a universal thing. South America, Scandinavia, Asia and Africa are always very colorful. Knitting Expat (Mina) was very well prepared and embraced its culture. I congratulate him. That's why when I was 14, I knitted the first multicolored striped sweater. Multicolored patterns are woven knot by knot on carpets and they all have a story. This is a culture. I love their shawls, my favorite is the yellow-white shawl. I embrace you with love. Thank you.

I was about 23 when I decided for my first sweater I would do colour work, never really knitted much of anything prior to that. My mom found a top down knit sweater and commented how easy it was so she taught my brother's then gf and I how to knit it. I decided I wanted an over size sweater since they were all the rage in the early 90's and because I was pregnant with our first child. I think I went up 3-4 sizes not really knowing any better. Anyway, I got as far as taking the sleeve stitches off to work on the body of the sweater and that's where it ended. I think because that coincided with having having our son and not having time to knit at that point. It sat in a bin with cedar balls for about 5 years then got moved to my inlaws for storage so we could turn my sewing/ craft room into a bedroom for our next child. There it sat until they sold their home about 10 years later! Since teal, fuchsia and white combinations were no longer in fashion I decided to keep the needles and send the partially made sweater and yarn off to the second hand store. Had I known I would get back into knitting this past few years I would have kept it and finished it, then donated it! lol I loved designing my own pattern and seeing it come to life in the sweater! Now as empty nesters without grand children I have the time to knit to my hearts content! I think I am going to purchase your Westboro Hat pattern and make it for my daughter who lives in Ottawa!
