$1,000 more or less depending on condition of your paint (for correction) and coating you choose.

@@themaverickhntr I’ve been doing my own polishing/ceramic coatings for the past 10 years. Since I have the supplies, it’s basically 8 hours of my time and $100 in coating. If you’re in Pa, you should really consider paint protection film for the front end/hood. That’s the game changer since ceramic won’t do an anything to stop rock chips. Great video. @ questions.... 1) do you need to do the cut/polish prior to applying the base coat? I have a 1 week old Maverick and I'm not anal about the finish and factory is good enough. 2)once the coating wears off/breaks down, what's the process for re-application? Thanks, Brian
@themaverickhntr Жыл бұрын
I mean, you don't HAVE to cut/polish before application. However, no good detailer is going to tell you to do so without it. Even if your truck just came from the factory to the detailer, I guarantee your paint is not in "factory" condition. It rode on rail cars, sat in lots, was driven a little bit and probably washed at the dealer before you picked it up. There are most certainly some small scratches and other imperfections on your clear coat that need to be corrected. If you coat the vehicle without doing that, you are "locking them in" below what is essentially a sheet of glass. As for your second question, after the coating has worn out, you'd simply use a cut/polish to remove what remains, get the paint looking perfect again and recoat. Obviously, the life of any coating depends on environmental conditions and how well the owner maintains it with regular washes and care with quick detailing spray at home.

IGL Ecoclean Blizzard car wash shampoo was used for the foam bath and wipe down. Prior to that, IGL iron fallout remover was used on the paint and wheels to decontamiate. Other than that, the only products used were the polishing compounds and IGL ceramic sealants. He has a whole shelf full of various polishing compounds. I honestly can't remember which ones he used. As for the IGL stuff, you can find all about it on their website here: iglcoatings.com/products/ecoclean-blizzard
@dwightducker9891 Жыл бұрын
That came out awesome. What does it cost to have it done?
@themaverickhntr Жыл бұрын
It really depends on the condition of your paint going in, and what coating you choose. If your vehicle is relatively new and the paint is in gret shape, the detailer will not need to spend much time polishing out swirls, scratches, marring, etc. So, that makes the job easier and cheaper. If your vehicle is in rough shape, the detailer may have to spend 4-5 hours polishing with different compounds until the paint condition is restored as close to perfect as possible. The other consideration is the ceramic coating you choose. A 1-year or 3-year coating is going to be more affordable than a 5-year or 7-year coating. That said, you should expect $600-$1,000 or more, depending on your area and your particular product. I've also noticed that if you live in a rural area like I do, the prices of things is more reasonable than it is in NYC or LA, for example.

Can you apply some coating for the exhaustion system? It’s low quality easy to rust components
@themaverickhntr Жыл бұрын
I'm not aware of any ceramic coatings for the exhaust system. My guess is that the high temperatures would significantly degrade the effectiveness. You might be able to use a high-temperature paint to protect the exhaust, but I am not an expert in this area.

Does this mean you can't go to automatic car washes that have the brushes anymore? Also, whats the price?
@themaverickhntr Жыл бұрын
Well, TBH, a detailer will tell you NEVER to go to car washes with brushes period! Those brushes scratch the snot out of your clear coat. You don't want that. So no, I will never use a brush on my truck; just a microfiber mitt like in the video. The coating makes the truck super easy to clean because stuff doesn't stick to it very well.

About $1,000, but keep in mind coating prices will vary by location and product. In this case, the 5-year coating is the top-of-the-line product from this installer. I could have gotten a 2-year coating for several hundred less. In larger urban areas, you might pay $1,500 for the same job. Best bet, if you are interested in options, is to reach out to some well-reviewed detailers in your area and compare your options.

Let us know when your truck stops beading water with that 5 year Ceramic coating. I had the same thing done to my Wifes CX30 (5 years ceramic) and it stopped beading after 1 year. I am thinking 5 year is BS
@themaverickhntr5 ай бұрын
The longevity of a ceramic coating has a ton to do with how well you maintain it. You can't just coat a vehicle and think of it as a magic bullet. You have to do regulsr maintenance washes and then applying a quality detail spray after washing hrlps a lot. I can say that my truck still beads water as well as the day it was coated. When it doesn't bead as well I know it's time for a wash and then the beading comes back instantly.

@themaverickhntr Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I know in big cities people are paying $2,000 and $3,000 for these coatings, which I think is insane! If you find a good installer in your area, explain your situation and you might be surprised at how affordable you can get a 2- or 3-year coating. Its also worth noting that while this video was on ceramic coatings, there are a lot of really good wax products out there that provide nice protection and look great. They won't last nearly as long as a ceramic, but you can get them for a fraction of the cost. The important thing is to put some protection on that paint!
