This week we install underlayment and show how to put the deck carpet on a '67 Mustang fastback in preparation of putting the carpet in our project car.

@cecil6711 Yeah, the antenna was the only breach on this "California" car. But that jute directly on the floor just held the water there for what was probably weeks. We'll be doing a floor pan show soon because of this.

@zaraak323i This one was completely preventable. Had they put in the tar based carpet underlayment that would have helped, better would have been to paint the floors with POR-15. But we'll go into that when we do that floor pan.

Thanks for the video, we are doing carpet in the mustang soon also, so some good tips and perfect timing! Can dynamat substitute for the underlayment, or still need underlayment with the dynamat?

nice, my deckplate carpet in my 73 coupe was just dust when i got it.... but when i paw paw put carpet in it forever ago he used silicone -_- im still cuting that crap off the floor.

Any difference between companies that manufacture these kits? ACC seems like the most expensive.

I have a 66, and on the NPD website I only see the thick jute underlayment set in a 4 piece set. In the video, you have the piece for the trans tunnel, but I don't see it on the website. Am I missing something?

The site shows several kits. #011172-6A is the four piece kit, #011172-7C offers 6 pieces, and #011172-7A offers 8. Go to the search on the Mustang page, narrow the field to 1966 and put in sound deadener and underlayment. That should get you in the area we found the stuff.

I spoke with a representative at NPD, and it turns out the 4 piece set is the only set in thick jute. They also have the rear seat and gas tank pieces as well, but no piece for the trans tunnel, as seen in your video.

Great video. Was the first leak around the antenna or were the cowl vents rusted out. Mine were gone on my 67. Thanks for the excellent how to on the underlayment.

Does anyone know how to completely remove the OEM cotton jute felt which is factory glued onto the underside of the carpet? That OEM felt is also visible in the video when you lift the carpet up (it's on its underside). I removed the felt from the carpet with a knife, but a thin layer of it remained glued to the plasticized carpet underlayer. All chemical methods which I tried afterwards to remove these felt remains were in vain.

No need to remove the fuzz. A heat gun can make short work of it but you risk damage to the carpet. YOu won't see it and if you won't tell, I won't.

AutoRestoMod Car Restoration Modification The OEM felt on the underside of my carpet literrally rotted out. It stinks like a carcass. I need to get rid of it completely in order to glue a replacement padding in its place. Heat gun is risky for the carpet. I tried gasoline, WD40, brake cleaner, various paint thinners, etc.

I replaced my whole 1970 Cadillac car floor with sheet metal, can someone how to mount the seats, do I need just to drill holes or what

Usually the floors have seat risers. Hopefully you put those back in. Also, hopefully you marked the seat hole position from the side rail and the front of the car. otherwise you'll need to get measurements from another '70 caddy. If you are overseas, you could ask people in the Cadillac forums for help. But if you just put sheet metal without any ribbing, you may experience oil canning.
