Purchased 2 of these. Works great on my new canoe. Thanks for the tip!

yeah...it literally took me buying at least four times of ones that would not stay on and id end up just throwing them away. the screw in kind are the best, which come with little metal blocks you have to screw on, problem is theyd scratch the top of your vehicle even though they arent tall, about quarter inch. pvc pipe cut into pieces placed on the outside of canoe would work if it can be properly angeled and stay in place. The problem i discovered is in order to use these rod holders for catfishing. you have to have two anchors, one on each end, or your canoe will sway back and fourth screwing up your lines or getting you hung up

Joshua McConkey Yeah I agree with the butt ends of the rods being tight. Luckily I will be trollong and fishing for smallies at my getaway in Arkansas so I use rods with smaller butt ends that fit a little tight but that's ok. 1 modification I did is cut out a small circle piece of very thin sticky foam rubber and placed it on the end that screws into the side of the canoe. Will hopefully save the outer side from scratching if it comes loose or when I screw it in tight.

I bought these and they work good if you chase smaller fish species. I fish for catfish and a fish broke off the red coated holder and stole my rod and reel. Something to consider.

you are correct. another problem is also you have to have two anchors if you are catfishing so you do not swing. But then you have the problem of two anchor ropes in your way also. Catfishing is best done from the bank to be honest
