Something that I noticed is that the name “Bear Trap” has a double meaning. Sure it’s mainly chosen because Molly likes bears, but throughout the episode Giovanni tells Molly that she “shouldn’t let people walk all over her” and you would definitely not want to walk on a bear trap giving this name a charming bit of confidence to it So in conclusion: LET GIOVANNI ADOPT MOLLY!

To be fair Almost every anime dad either sucks or is dead so He falls in line pretty neatly There's also the potential something happened. Somebody brought up that Molly could have used her Epithet on him and that's why she said earlier that she shouldn't be using it on people. Another person said that her dad could be in denial about his wife dying and being in massive pain so he's acting Looney to ignore it. So there's still hope.

Molly makes it out that life used to be normal and carefree when her mom was alive and that the Dad was even a skilled toymaker. It's likely that the death of his wife (and if Molly's reaction means she was there, he almost lost her too) sent him into an emotional overload and he doubled back trying to act like nothing ever happened.
