'Epoch' Korg Minilogue

Tycho talks through one of his favorite synths, a Korg Minilogue, that he used to make nearly every synth sound on 'Epoch' and toured with from 2016-2022. The synth was passed forward in 2023 to a fan in the Open Source Community who had purchased the Digital Record Collection of The Science of Patterns.

Bought my Minilouge three years ago and I love it. People say it sounds “thin”, but really it just sounds like itself. I think often people buy an analog synth trying to recreate a particular sound from the past they love, but for me the best patches have come from listening to what a particular instrument excels at. To me the minilouge has this aged radio transmission vibe, especially with its dirty analog delay. Often I roll off a lot of the bass and let that character shine. I of course had dreams of getting some classic high end synth, but really Im satisfied with it, theres something to be said for sticking with an instrument and really jelling with it! Anyway, I guess if its good enough for tycho, its good enough for the likes of me! Thanks Scott for making such beautiful art that continues to inspire.

The XD sounds like a soft synth to me. Something in a DAW. The original sounds like it’s self. Definitely want one and the Grandmother.
