I found Tycho right before moving to the Pacific Northwest. I loved there for 8 years. It was my driving, coding, everything soundtrack. I'm still a huge fan but nothing epitomizes the best way of listening than to be sitting on it driving down the PCH near the ocean and trees. Special.

Knowing how much you put into this new era really shows! That growth & change you longed for was flowing all throughout this album & was amazing to experience, you are never tied to any bounds! Experiment with everything you want & continue growing yourself as an artist because whatever your brilliance can create is just pure art. Saint Sinner did so much input into this album I didn’t even realize how important this new era was with vocals being front & center. All of you deserve the Grammy nomination! @Tychomusic
@Tychomusic 5 жыл бұрын
I typically use UA Shadow Hills comp, Acustica emerald EQ and UA ATR-102 Tape as my basic "vibe" mastering chain. Then when I get that where I want it the mix engineer I work with Count will add Ozone and Elevate to finalize things

Can you share a high-level breakdown of what your typical workflow looks like for music, either with or without vocals?
@Tychomusic
@Tychomusic 5 жыл бұрын
I usually start by finding a melody on the keyboard or guitar then I play a part on the bass guitar usually, sometimes synth bass. after I get a nice progression going I'll make like a 16 bar loop and just start adding drums and layers. Once I feel like there's enough to work with I start moving things around and creating a rough arrangement. once I have a rough framework I'll start working out variations and alternate parts to create building blocks for the sections / movements of the song. The finalizing phases are mostly arrangement, then mixing / mastering but during that time I'm always tweaking and adding stuff

I'm a huge fan of all the instrumentals of the new album especially Japan. Which I feel is a masterpiece. I feel having a full-on vocalist now takes away from the focus on complex harmonies in the songs. Respectfully, I have to say that the vocal "front and center" approach takes away front the magical journeys of pure instrumentals. Just my opinion. Love you guys!

Question for Scott: Do you have an archive of unreleased songs? Something like Aphex Twin's unreleased tracks album could be really cool. Another if you have time: Have you considered writing your own lyrics or do you think the vocalist is in a better spot to do that? Thanks for the music BTW! Really makes my days better.

Hundreds and hundreds of ideas but not many I would consider finished songs. I dig through them sometimes for inspiration but it's very rare I'll actually pick one up and finish it. for weather I wanted to let Saint Sinner do her thing to incorporate a new perspective into the music. I have my own vocal music with lyrics I wrote but that will probably never see the light of day ;) thank you! always nice to hear the music has a positive effect 🙏

How did you feel about breaking out of your comfort zone, bringing someone new into the mix and delivering something fresh to your fans while trying to appeal to a bigger audience?

It felt great. After 18 years I wanted to try something new and explore a different perspective on this whole thing and going through that process was a really powerful learning experience. I feel like I grew a lot as an artist and a person

@@Tychomusic One more question: when you step back and see how far you've come since you started, are their any particular highlights/tracks you're most proud of? Thanks for the music, man. Much love.
