I have epoxy flooring in my entire home. I went to “school”, and a friend, family member & I installed the flooring. Yes, it takes attention to detail. My friend kept getting frustrated at my “pickiness”, but it paid off. Five years & 5 dogs later, yes, the floors are not as shiny, but they still look great, are VERY easy to clean, & I still love them! I just run a large dust mop around the house daily (for dog hair & dirt) & the floors look clean! (Of course I mop weekly, too ). I do not regret my decision.

i have a long 30ft walk indoor hallway to the house that I was thinking of epoxying. There won’t be pets and rarely children - but it is a the first part of the house that (airbnb) guests will walk through prior to the actual house. what are your two cents about doing the floor? it’s currently an ugly cement and we are planning on making that hallway “artsy” and i figured an epoxy job on the floor would go great with that. Let me know!
@learncoatings-epoxyfloorin94484 жыл бұрын
Yes we have actually done some epoxy floors in Airbnbs. It is a suitable solution especially in walkways and common areas. Just make sure that the ugly cement is well leveled, primed, sealed and properly patched before you coat over with epoxy

I recently bought a house I have stone tile in my family room. They are earthy colors. Some are higher than others. I understand epoxy may not be a good choice. I want something on top of tile to level the tile and to bring out the earthy colors. They are quite dull. Might anyone have any recommendations. I do have a small dog. Thank you in advance.

Hello, Thank you for your video and the information contained in it. I would like to try the epoxy in a new home as a short term flooring plan, of about a year to five years. I have come across acid staining. What is your opinion and comparison between epoxy and acid staining? Which one is long lasting? From South Africa
@learncoatings-epoxyfloorin94484 жыл бұрын
I do not have much experience with acid staining. One advantage of acid staining is that since the floor does not have a uniform appearance, small scratches and defects in the surface may not be as visible. If the floor is for a 1-5 year window go ahead and try it

Can you use a steam cleaner on an resin floor? I've just bought a house that came with it. Not really sure how to get it super clean
@learncoatings-epoxyfloorin94482 жыл бұрын
Epoxy tends to break up if the temperature exceeds 60-70 degrees celsius. So steam is not the best choice. If you want it super cleaner look into getting a rotating scrubber

So are polyurethane floors a better choice? because in forged ciment(beton cire) they use polyurethance coatings. Are these more scratch resistant?

Yes polyurethane is used as a varnish in decorative concrete. Scratches are less visible and it is also resistant to yellowing from the sunlight

@learncoatings-epoxyfloorin94483 жыл бұрын
VOCs are harmful during the application phase. So when the products are being applied there should be no-one staying in the house and ensure that there is adequate ventilation. Also do not have any food lying around. Food, fruits, vegetables may absorb the smell. Once the product has cured and the VOCs have evaporated there is no danger

Another aspect not mentioned here is the effect of epoxy resin on our health. Can you tell us something about the safety of such floors in apartments. I am referring to VOC and chemicals contained in resins that are released into the home environment if someone has such floors at home.. Great video. Thanks.
@learncoatings-epoxyfloorin94484 жыл бұрын
Thanks, good point about VOCs. If you are applying epoxies in the house, have the house well ventilated (with open windows) which can be an issue if you are trying to eliminate the incidence of dust and air particles. Also the smell of VOCs travels through vents and floors, so really nobody should be staying in the building for a few days during the application

Thank you for asking this. I have kids with autism and one of them is very destructive, so I've been researching which kind of flooring world stand up to the abuse, but my kids are also very chemically sensitive and harsh chemicals have caused regression in cognitive development in the past. It's a frustrating conundrum when it comes to home improvement. Nearly everything is toxic and if it's not, it's twice the cost.

If you get a scratch or blemishes….couldn’t you just cover it with more epoxy like a little patch? I make epoxy items and I wanna do my floor and when I get scratches or blemishes on the craft items I make, fixing it is as easy as just (optional, conditional) sanding and adding a little color and/or clear coat to bring it back. I honestly wouldn’t mind doing spot maintenance like that every few years or months. I also have no animals, a ton of rugs and don’t wear shoes in the house so I’m not anticipating too much wear and tear like that.
