Just bought this mold and used it with just wood and epoxy. May try with corks now. Cool look.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems easier to buff the pieces to a shine, vs pouring more resin on them.

It's up to you, generally the flood coat method is easier and although it takes an extra day to dry, it avoids all the sanding and polishing.

I wanted a glossy look on everything for these boards. The labor is about the same between a table pour or a polished board. Also polishing removes material while the table top epoxy adds more material if you are ever worried about thickness or hitting a cork.

I’ve had bubble issues with the corks so I’ve made a cup of sealer and just dunked each one then placed, then torched out bubbles for a bit till started to gel up then added the rest of my clear deep pour or whatever.

That makes sense and would a different way of achieving a similar result.

@@CraftedElements yeah third time was the charm, first time got some floaters cuz waited to long to stick them down on first layer, second time got excessive bubbles coming from corks, third time was what I mentioned and worked well for me. If you’re not failing you’re not learning. Lol. Merry Christmas

@@TailEndCustoms 100%. If I included all my mistakes in our videos, they would be twice as long :-). I try to make myself look like a pro, but I'm a better marketer than a woodworker 🙂

Thanks for the comment. I used the longest curing epoxy super clear makes and did the clear in multiple pours over a couple hours to limit the bubbles issues. I have pre sealed corks in the past and the has worked to just more steps.

@@TailEndCustoms yes sir… we fail to learn. The orange board had floaters.the epoxy was not hard enough. The corks stuck to the orange and pulled the orange epoxy up. In the end that is what gave the orange one the depth.

How did epoxy get on the outside edges of the wood if they were tight in the mold? Especially after the roundover on the edges to

Thanks for this vid..clean up question, do you reuse the cups you’ve mixed with?
@Makerdanbuilds
@Makerdanbuilds Жыл бұрын
Thank You for the comment. I will spray mold release in the bucket before mixing to help clean the epoxy out. Most of the time I can reuse them. If it takes more then about 2 minutes to try and clean the bucket goes in the trash. They are cheap to replace on Amazon.

I always thought they needed primer so only the resin epoxy with pigmente and then just the 2 top coats?
