Dr. Jenni, I have a 1 and half year old miniature horse (Zena). I want to use her for children's birthday party for petting, taking pictures with her and pulling a cart/buggy. She's very hyper. Why do men have castration anxiety around you sisters? Is it something that you have said? If you sisters talk to them about it, and have told them you like doing it that may why they are concerned. If you castrate horses with joy, maybe they are concerned about their own safety. Have you ever thought about that?

Dear MEN -Castration is unnecessary. In Latin cultures the men ride stallions and the women ride spayed mares (yegua castrada).

I totally agree. Once the females are tied off the males cant impregnate them so there is no need to castrate the males. I think its a cruel and barbaric procedure and these people are only doing it just fir practice. Its sickening. We say we are human but we don't castrate humans so why is it ok to castrate the animal

@@lyndapeters9144 okay, but tying the mare's tubes requires a much more invasive procedure than castration... so why is that a better option? And, logistically, let's say the horse gets loose. An intact stallion can feasibly impregnate numerous mares in a short period of time whereas a mare can only have one foal a year. Castration of stallions makes a LOT more sense than sterilizing mares.

@@oliviacarroll1743 I don't agree. Once the females are tied off they can't make any more babies and it's not as invasive as removing a body part. It's just a surgery to close the females' tubes and the stallions cannot impregnate them. Animals do get depressed when their sexual organs are removed. They are not as ignorant as you would like people to believe. They understand that their sex organs are removed and they get depressed because their social life is cut to a large extent. they can no longer have confidence with a female and are laughed after or cast off by other intact males. Vets would say o they don't get depressed because they don't want us to know the truth.. The truth is you vets just like the idea of saying you're doing a big procedure. you just want to practice doing surgery and what better excuse than to say your helping when in fact your not helping the animal. it's cruel and barbaric. Tie off the females and stop this wickedness. some people just think it's obscene to see an animals balls, stop demonizing sex. God created sex. leave the f***ing animals!!

@@lyndapeters9144 so you’d prefer to do an invasive surgery?! Castration is an easy process and it requires minimal sedation, and very very little blood loss. But spaying a mare required curing into there body and removing a part of there insides. It is extremely invasive and includes lots of blood loss. And full sedation. So if you can’t deal with someone making a few snips down there on an animal then you need to rethink things
