Lindsay, I'm prepping myself for shoulder surgery at the end of October as the surgery is on my dominant side... I wanted to say a big thank you for all of your How to video's, without them I would be struggling post surgery. All of the things we do every single day of our lives and never give a second thought , until times like this.. By the time my surgery time arrives I will be well prepared... Again a huge thank you, I wouldn't be able to get through this otherwise, without a whole lot of help... Thanks from Miss Independent

These videos are unbelievably helpful. I am having a total shoulder replacement. I live alone. My sons are coming to help me but my biggest fear has been needing help with dressing and personal hygiene - I do not want my sons to have to assist me with these activities. Your videos have helped me prepare for just about every possible need - I have ordered many of the products you recommended and I am practicing in advance. I can't imagine how much more difficult this would be without your help. Thank you so, so much!

Lindsay, you've saved me with these videos addressing how to handle everyday tasks after shoulder replacement surgery. I am so grateful. With my immobilizer sling I developed a terrible, itchy, rash when I wore clothing made from synthetic fabrics. For those with sensitive skin, I really recommend using 100% cotton clothing. I found that the best treatment for the rash that covered much of my torso and neck was baby powder (specifically Caldesene brand).

I'm a man who got a shoulder replacement surgery, I realized before I got the surgery that it would be a problem putting my undershorts and pants on with only one arm available when I would be wearing a sling, so I bought a spring loaded clamp that had a hole in the handle, and I also bought a stretchy bungee cord with a metal "S" hook in each end. Then I attached the bungee cord hook into the hole in the clamp handle and bent the hook with a pliers so it would stay attached to the handle; It worked great to use to pull up my undershorts and to pull up my pants by myself using only one arm.

I have purchased 2 inexpensive tube top dresses so I can pull them up pretty easily. Since I am having surgery in the fall this is not the most appropriate clothing so I ordered 2 simple sweater ponchos online. I found one that is short so it isn't too much material in the way. I also bought a couple bralettes in the teen dept. and cut the shoulder on the surgery side - I sewed a snap on that side. Maybe these ideas will help others.

I was in an accident and broke both shoulders. 🥴 I am right handed. My right humerus was repaired with a plate and 10 screws. My right humerus was too damaged to repair so they did a replacement. I have about a third to a half normal humerus on the elbow end and the rest is titanium. That was June of 2020. I also fractured my left knee and sprained my right ankle. What a nightmare! My right shoulder is now functioning like a normal shoulder and my left is… about as good as can be expected.

How was your therapy? I broke my clavicle 3 and a half weeks ago and will start PT soon. I’m a very active 76 year old and this has been very inconvenient to say the least. And very painful. Hope you are fully recovered.
@indranidasgupta8982 Жыл бұрын
@@bingm8109 Oh my god, you must be in so much pain! Are you taking any pain medication? My pain is much, MUCH less now... I was discharged by the orthopedist in January (I fell in lat august so it was roughly four month by then)... what I noticed was that by late december, my sharpness of the pain on movement was much less. There was still pain but it was manageable. Now I do some home exercises they gave me but mainly what I have done over the past two months was everything that I have always done with the arm... meaning, even when I have some pain I push myself a little to go through the movements I need to do with that arm to lead a normal life. So I've been pulling the seatbelt in as normal a movement as I can even though back in early december, it hurt like hell. Before December, I was using my right arm to pull it... so I think if the doctor and the therapist say it's okay, it's best to go back into normal movement as soon as possible. But of course every body is different and your therapist will be a valuable asset to you in the coming months. All my best to you... please keep me updated on your progress. All I can tell you is patience is key and just grit your teeth a bit and you will get through the next months. Also, a bit of warning: therapy will hurt, especially AFTER... meaning when you first get it, the next few days will HURT. I could only do once a week because of the pain... I took advil etc bc I can't really do serous painkillers, but be ready and see if at least in the first few weeks if you can schedule shorter and less sessions... but always tell the truth to your therapist in terms of pain... don't soldier through it in the first few months... pain is an indicator of stress on the body, so always pay heed to it.

@@indranidasgupta8982 thank you for this and glad that you are better now. The car my husband and I were in was hit by someone who ran a stop sign, and we were so very lucky in that my broken clavicle was the only traumatic injury. Bumps and lots of bruises, but that’s all. Our car was totaled. I am such a baby when it comes to taking medication of any kind, so I just used ice and some homeopathic treatments. Lol I am still in a sling of course and trying to keep the shoulder immobilized, but I will be so glad to get rid of that. My next follow up appt is on the 21st and I will start PT then. Prob not too much since it will not be 6wks out from the accident. I do expect the therapy to be painful, but I will certainly push through and hopefully the healing process will not drag out. I’m anxious to resume the activities that are part of my life. I’m not good at being still and incapacitated. Lol Thank you again for the info you shared and I will let you know how it goes. Again, glad that you are ok.

@@bingm8109 quick response before going to sleep... re homeopathy meds...I grew up in India and am very familiar with them. I did take Arnica Montana for this after I stopped taking the advil... but it made me unable to sleep and kind of crazy inside my head, so I stopped it. But right from the start I began to use Arnicare ointment and CBDMD 750 ointment... they both have menthol, especially the CBD ointment and I have to say that the CBD ointment helped hugely in a temporary manner. But I think Arnica has healing capacity that CBD doesn't -- it's more temporary, but it works! All my best to your healing... good wishes and prayers going out to you and your husband. Medicare does not cover most devices. They will pay for a mobility aid and a bedside commode. Most other things will be an out of pocket expense 😕
