frank ocean's channel orange, the weeknd's trilogy and lana del rey's born to die had tumblr in a chokehold during this era!

So true I remember discovering tumblr just bc of how popular The Weeknd, Frank and especially Lana were on that site Lana in particularly with her unique fashion style of combining 1950s Americana and inner city Latina glamour had me in chokehold before my woke years came along and realize how problematic it was 😂😂😂😂

CHANNEL ORANGE was groundbreaking! It covered so many topics including love, capitalism, elitism, substance abuse, existentialism, confusion, etc. Frank really expanded the horizons of R&B music. Sometimes it can feel like the genre is stagnant or regressive, yet this album makes it feel EXPANSIVE and limitless.

Man I can't believe it's been a decade since this album came out.I was in middle school at the time and one of my cousins was born that year.2012 was a year that had albums that would pave the way for the rest of 2010s music.

I remember first listening to Channel Orange when it first came out and I didn’t understand the nuances of his lyricism but I just knew from the sound mixing it was deep and reflective. Now that I’m older, it’s become a lot more relatable to my love life.

I actually bumped Channel Orange today and teared up to Bad Religion when you listen closely you can hear how intricate Frank lyrics are. The ending of Pyramids always has me so messed up the entire thing is so beautiful it truly feels like you're on an adventure. Yes Frank only has 2 official albums, but it feels like he's done so much more the way he constructs his songs goes beyond the surface in my opinion. Channel Orange is forever blessing this world and I was singing loud and proud to it today!

Frank ocean is the reason I started making music! I was always turned off by how the industry likes to portray LGBT artist and how we’re not taken super serious , which is probably due to toxic masculinity. So when he came out it really changed the way I even viewed hip hop and r&b. His celebrity is also inspiring , imagine being able to disappear for however long you want and still be relavant when you release , he doesn’t even have to engage in drama or be out looking for attention or being clout chasing.
@destinixshakur2 жыл бұрын
Ion think it’s toxic masculinity, I think the best way I can describe it would be how people portray people out the hood . I don’t like how they portray one time of sexuality and on the latter spectrum show flamboyance. I hope this make sense

Channel Orange is the last album I purchased and definitely top 3. It is a work of art and I love to listen to it every couple of years. Edit: I do wish that he didn’t address his qwerness right before his album. Not because he shouldn’t but because I HATE when people attribute the success of the album because people wanted to hear him discuss his sexuality. No Ma’am, it’s a beautiful album and his honesty was refreshing.

Ighhh where do we even start with channel orange?? First I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since the album dropped I remember it was the summer before my freshmen year in high school and the beginning of my love for exploring contemporary music after spending the first half of my childhood being a snobbish old soul music lover. And secondly, the album itself is just truly a masterpiece from the musical style to the cinematic quality to the storytelling on how it uses the setting of California as its own character (side note I was already a massive book nerd and anyone who knows me knows I’m a sucker for amazing usage of settings in stories) to the lyrical subject matters ranging from lost love, classism to depression and then Frank’s voice being emotive to each songs and it’s messages. I feel these elements are what keeps channel orange from aging like wine for a whole decade I definitely regard it as one of the greatest albums of both the decade and of all time Personal favorite songs: Lost Forrest Gump Super rich kids Pyramid Thinking bout you
