Thanks for the video. I called a repair shop and they told me the length should be 87 inches, I bought a 96 inch cord rope at Home Depot and followed the video. My rope was too thick to fit through the guide on the mower handle so I untied the handle end and ran the rope through the guide and retied the end for the grip handle. The cord rope cost 14 cents a foot or $1.12. I though about buying the whole starter assembly for $13.50 but the shipping cost was $8 as no one in Mpls had one in stock, plus I would have to wait a week for delivery. Repair was very easy and I complement you on the video. =============================================== My Honda HRX217 mower has lost its self propelling as the spring has fallen off the belt drive. How do I reattach?

Hi, Great video! One of the three nuts that holds the starter assembly to the lawnmower will not loosen as the nut is slipping under the starter assembly. Can you inform me how to access under this area so I can loosen this third nut? Thanks, Ciaran

cool, mine HR214 is since 1986 and it still has the original rope. It has to break one of these decades, I have a spare rope in my spares stuff.

Does this same thing apply to the snow blower? I have a Honda HS 520 and the pull cord is shredded. I'm sure a certified repairman will charge an hr or two so I want to attempt it myself.

what does it mean when the rope is hard to pull/won't come out more than a foot? it is a Honda but not same model as yours, just says Honda. also, I turned it over and pulled all dried grass out from underneath then tried to start it; the rope came out a bit more easily (still hard to pull though) but did not go back in. could you tell me what is this from, means what as a symptom? thx~ I really like your video

when I turn the three nuts on top to loosen them, the screw turns with them so I can't take them off. Is there an easy way to fix this? seems like I have to access the bottom of the housing somehow to make sure the screws don't turn.

The nuts are threaded onto studs that are threaded into the block and are used to mount the entire blower housing. Sometimes you can use an impact driver to get the nuts to come lose. If that doesn't work, remove them with the studs and separate them once you can get to both sides. Once you have the studs out I like the Red Locktite on the threads and screw them back into the block.

The ropes are usually between 18-22 inches long. Most people have a 15-18" pull . If it's too long the rope will fill the pulley and cause problems and too short means you won't get enough pull.
