One of the absolute best instructional repair videos I have ever viewed on KZbin! Finally somebody who understood the importance of creating a video with excellent focusing, lighting, keeping the camera still while filming, carefully selected close-up shots that are not blurry, great sound, easy to follow directions by Mark. Congratulations Mark! You have created the perfect instructional repair video ! ! Sadly to say, such great repair videos are rare on KZbin.......

As a small business owner, I cannot thank you enough for this video. I spent less than 75.00 to buy new parts. Much more cost effective than buying a new mixer. Living on a small island in Alaska means I don't have access to 'repair' shops that might be available in larger cities.

You guys are the best! Mark gives very detailed directions, and talks at the right pace so i can keep up. I grew up with 5 older brothers, and being the first little sister they made sure I had the 'basic knowledge on how do small repairs myself. So when both of my kitchen-aids broke down I found eReplacements on line, diagnosed the problem, ordered the parts, then watched the video. I'm proud to say both of my mixers are up and running at 1/4 of what it would have cost me to take just one of them to a shop .eReplacements will be my go to guys from now on.

Fantastic video Mark. Where I worked they where going to throw out a KitchenAid Pro 600 Mixer because the planetary assembly wasn't spinning, so I decided to bring it home before in went in the trash. Watched your clip and for $20 and 20 mins later I had a working machine again. Thanks ever so much you just gave life to somebody else s garbage, and a new toy for myself. Cheers.

The worm follower gear in my Pro 5 stripped pretty badly after many dense bread doughs. I ordered a new gear, new grease, then watched your video. Took apart the mixer following your instructions, cleaned everything up and am ready to complete the repair. This video is a lifesaver. Five stars!

Just got done replacing the planetary on my 15 year old Pro600. The video was excellent, the only problem I had was finding a set of ring pliers small enough to remove the snap rings. Three sets later, it went smoothly, taking about 30 minutes. And I am no expert repair lady. Thanks.

I bought my KitchenAid Pro 600 stand mixer last week, and just wanted to open it up and make sure that it had a metal gear housing. It was extremely simple to do thanks to this video, which is by far one of the most clearly spoken and clearly illustrated how-to videos that I have ever watched! If I ever need to replace the gears, which I hope doesn't happen to me as it has for many others, I will not have any fear in taking on the project myself, with your video as my guide . Thank you, Mark!!!

Hi Mark, Great and informative video. One additional thing that your viewers need to watch out for. My mixer had the bushing from the gearbox cover actually work loose from the cover and slide down the shaft, resting on top of the retaining ring. This caused the damage to the lower (Bronze colored) gear and worm gear shaft assy because the top of the shaft was not supported allowing it to engage and disengage the gear teeth during operation. This effectively caused my lower gear (bronze) colored gear to wear excessively eventually failing. I inspected my cover for wear and cracks, none. So I reinstalled the bushing into the cover and peened the edges of the cover to hold the bushing in place should it decide to move downward again. I used an automatic center punch to accomplish the peening in five or six places to be certain. Your viewers could also accomplish this by replacing the gearbox cover. Other than that everything was accurate and worked exactly as described. Thanks for taking the time to help everyone with their appliance repair issues.

Mark, this video made my week! I just bought a used Kitchenaid Pro 600 6qt mixer for $105. When it ran a very liquid grease the color of Hershey's chocolate sauce would drop from the attachment rod. I watch another video that explain why the grease would be that consistency and this video showed me in great detail what parts should go where and how to properly clean and re-grease the gears. All I had to buy was new grease and a pair of retaining ring pliers and it's good as new!

this a great instruction video that I had found after working on our mixer. I had replaced the plastic housing 4 years ago. and should have replaced the gears at the same time but did not. today I replaced the gears all from ereplacement parts. had taken it apart before so knew most of the steps. someone asked what the cost was. I did not replace the planetary shaft but did all gears but the secondary gears. I replaced all the bearing parts. The cost for me was 65. which when you consider the price of a new mixer, it was well worth the price. Thank you for a great video. I saved it so that I can refer to it later.

Great video! Thanks for the clear instructions. I was able to replace the worn worm follower gear. The hardest part was finding food grade grease here in Ecuador, but after a couple of weeks of searching I found some. The gear cost $20 here, the grease over $40. But, there is enough of it to replace the grease on the mixer a few times at least. Thanks again for the excellent video!

Hi Mark. Great video. I replaced all the gears on my mixer a year ago after watching this. The planetary would not spin under the slightest of loads because the worm follower gear was worn badly. One year later and the worm follower gear is a mess. We use the machine very heavily, but I'm surprised that the oem part lasted almost ten years and the replacement worm follower wore after one year. In reassembling the mixer, I always felt that the worm gear had a little too much side to side play in

this was a really useful video. good, simple step by step instructions for someone who has little-to-no experience. one thing i would note is that when i replaced the worm follower gear, it was really tight around the planetary shaft. at first i thought it didn't even fit and i ended up having to hammer it down.

Video helped clarify the orientation of the shaft bearings. Flats need to be 'vertical', unlike shown in the parts manual on the KitchenAid website. I don't understand how some one who is obviously mechanically competent as yourself could replace THE ENTIRE gear train of this mixer, and then cheap out on 2 small bearings. Which, aside from the motor bearings, are the fastest turning bearings in the whole assembly. Don't get me wrong, the video does a very good job at explaining for non mechanically inclined people (I happen to not be one of those). Excellent instructions.

An excellent video, thank you for producing and publishing it! One thing I can't help but mention - KitchenAid mixer just sucks, I have the "Professional HD" model (it looks very similar inside to what you show here), the plastic gear box cracked, the accessory gear is worn and this is just after a few years of very light use (definitely less than once a month). And it looks like it's a pretty common problem.

Saved me lots of $ -- was able to use this video along with your video about replacing the speed controller to tune up my mixer. I didn't need to replace any of these gears, but after replacing my speed controller I did take apart the gear box, clean every gear and bearing (using Citra Solv as my degreaser) and put it all back together with Whirlpool/Kitchenaid food grade grease from Amazon just to make sure it runs just as well for another 12 years. You kept me from forgetting random parts as I put it back together!

Hey Mark, maybe you can help me with this. I have repaired my Pro 600 four times now over about 8 years (I use it a lot for heavy work, like milling and dough kneading), so I'm very familiar with the process. As you probably already know, the official Kitchenaid exploded diagram is wrong in a couple of details, like the shape of the Drive Gear, and the Front Bearing which is incorrectly drawn. So I'm not using it as my Reference of Truth. But as you see in the exploded diagram, the flats on the flanges of both the Front Bearing and the Rear Bearing appear parallel with the ground, rather than vertical as you mention they should be in the video. When vertical, they don't fit snugly into their mounts cast into the body of the machine and wobble terribly. When horizontal, however, they hold tight in one exact position which appears to be optimal for proper gear spacing. The Transmission Housing, though, doesn't have any corresponding flat to hold the bearings still. In fact, the annular groove for the Rear Bearing flange is perfectly round and will theoretically allow it full rotation, even though it is prevented from doing so by the body in which it is mounted. There is no corresponding full groove for the Front Bearing. This is, without doubt, the worst job of appliance engineering I have seen in a long time, as there are about six wrong ways to put these assemblies back together and have the machine still run -- at least at first, until the improper gear spacing causes premature gear wear and the resultant gear stripping. So can you tell me where you were taught that the Front and Rear Bearing flanges were supposed to be vertical? Was there any explanation as to why? Thanks a lot for your help on this.

My following gear was badly worn but everything else seemed okay so I just replaced the one. When I put it back together, it made a lot of grinding noises so I took it apart again. Is there any way of telling which parts need replacing other than just visual inspection? I have compared my parts to new ones and there is no discernible difference. Excellent video by the way, I wish everyone else used this as a learning template. Great visual, timing and well rehearsed. If you weren't working from a script, you have a damn good memory!

Thank you. Answered my question about how to repack the gear box, as well as showing correct installation of the washers around the bearing on the front of the worm axle. A bit confused about the comment about "replace it" - I think you meant the cover, yes? Not the bushings? The worm gear does seem to have quite a bit of play, and even though the two bushings have "dog-eared" flanges, it looks as if they will be able to spin, or at least move... Anyhow, THANK YOU.
