Hi, thanks for the review! I just saw that Ergotron make a "LX Grommet Mount Kit" that allows you to install the arm though a hole in your desk so you don't have to cut the desk frame - just drill a hole and install through the hole. Cheers

One of very few videos that are simple in explanation, that's we all need, no drama or music in back ground etc. keep it up, good work, also, plz add some more details in description of video, current details are enough, but a little more such as monitor model number would be more beneficial.

The extra M3 6mm screw is for locking out the horizontal / vertical pivot function. 🙂 There’s a hole in the center of the VESA mount plate: if you screw the M3 in from the monitor side into the arm, it locks out the pivot function and forces the monitor to stay horizontal. It’s useful in cases where you mount an extra wide monitor and accidentally engaging the pivot may hit result in the edge of the monitor hitting the table and damaging the display panel.
@kwiatteck
@kwiatteck Жыл бұрын
I used wrong word to describe this movement. I meant pivot. However rest of the story is correct. I have a small play with the screw mounted, however I chose to ignore it. I noticed some black wear remainings of plastic sleeves in the middle hinge, wondering how long it will take to wear it out. Kiitos!

1:43, I don't know if all LX stands ship with the parts, but there is an alternative way to mount the stand to a table. In the instructions it's called "Grommet Hole". Basically, instead of a clamp, you drill a hole in the table: there's a plate, a threaded rod and butterfly nut that ships, I think, with all LX stands although your photo at 0:38 doesn't show it. Here's instructions (kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKeukIWYgcuEnMk)

This was the exact review I was looking for! I've been looking all over the place for opinions on the LX stand, since it was so expensive, but this review gave a very detailed explanation on the pros and cons of the stand. Also appreciated you pointing out that the Amazon premium stand appears to be exactly the same, but with a different badge on it. I still plan to go with the ergotron version though as the amazon stand is only $10 dollars cheaper (at the time of writing) and I figure the longer warranty is worth the trade off for $10. Thanks for the helpful video!

This was a great video, and you're the only reviewer I've seen who mentioned that a single arm can be used, instead of arbitrarily using both. Although, I wouldn't recommend cutting a piece of your table off just to make space for the monitor arm's base. I think it would have been a far more practical solution to drill a gromit hole, and then connect the base using the gromit mount accessory.

Nice and practical video, i just have one question, my deck thickness is 36mm which not belong for any ranges from their manual on website for LX Arm, in paper version of manual is different and that arm can fit? Their ranges on website are: #1 less than 10mm, #2 (12-35mm), #3 (37-60mm) or practically they overlap somehow?

Thanks for the comment. The bracket on the arm is 4.5" or 10 cm deep when up against a wall. Depending on your monitor and it's mounting bracket, add that to this measurement and you'll know how close you can get to the wall. For me to the front of my monitor is it's a total 8.5" or 21 cm.

For the Monitor arm, were you also restricted by the same 5°degree downwards tilt adjustment on the screen? If so, did you bend (is possible in your case/model) to bend the metal tabs out to get a greater degree of tilt? 5degrees is simply unacceptable if you've got two of these arms on a pole with monitors in a vertical stacked configuration and you need the top monitor to tilt down more than 5 degrees in order to have the best viewing. Thoughts or observations about your arm and the above?
@EverythingPractical
@EverythingPractical Жыл бұрын
I think you would be able to modify the stop tabs in order to create a greater downward tilt. However, I am not sure it will maintain the set position. Perhaps worth a try anyways 🙃

When you screw the swivel-locking screw in, does it still give few degrees (to level monitor for example) to operate or should it be no play for swiveling at all? Mine allows for some movement, then I can't go aby further. Was wondering if this small play should exist at all. Also hinge closest to monitor, left-right movement is quite hard to move, but can be done.
@EverythingPractical

It is a locking screw so the idea would be that there is no movement. I dont mind being able to move it a lottle so mine isnt extremely tight. If you want it to not have play, you would need to tighten it more. So it's up to you 🙂

Is there a reason why most people install the monitor arm near the corner of the desk, not the center? Any problem installing at the center? Does it give less room for movement?
@EverythingPractical
@EverythingPractical 2 жыл бұрын
This mainly depends if you have the space behind your desk. I think most people yave their desk against wall so the mount has to go near the corner, otherwise-in the middle the arms stick out backwards. What is the weight of the monitor? You can tighten the spring, (at the top of the arm) it is shown in the video where this is located.

Hi, I'm planning on purchasing a similar monitor arm for my desk. Unfortunately my desk has the same issue as yours did. Could you tell me what tools did you use to saw through that part of the metal underneath your desk?
@EverythingPractical
@EverythingPractical 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, I used a saw blade suitable for metal and pliers to bend and pull off the metal after. If you have an electric grinder this would be even better. I also removed the frame from the wood top to not damage the wood. Good luck!

This can absolutely work like that, but only if the clamp fits past the frame. If it doesnt, you'll need to trim a little. The saw I used was a small hand saw.

Hello :DD Can you move the arm backwards? I don't have a lot of desk space and I feel ill if the monitor is too close to me, does this mount allow for the arm to go back off the desk at all? xDD Would really appreciate any help with this

Hello 👋 yes, the arm can move back a little, but you are a bit restricted by the angle that the mounting plate can rotate. It's certainly worth a try!!!

Does the arm have a swing lock or a bump stop that you can insert to stop it from smashing into the wall? I've seen the humanscale one have it but I prefer the quality of the ergotron

@@EverythingPractical Is it like the smart stop from humanscale which allows the arm to rotate without exceeding a point so you don't hit a wall but still rotate freely in its 90,180 and 360 degree field of motion. It is on their m2.1 arm.

No, it is only a set screw. The user has to be careful not to swing the arm into the wall.

Question why didn't you drill a hole in the table top and mount it that way? Rather than cutting the table?

What would you recommend for a 49" widescreen?
@EverythingPractical

I cant imagine it, 34" is plenty for me. But it depends on what you want and need. But for duel screen work, 34 is plenty. If you need more, you can of course consider larger.

5:55, could this be what you are looking for? Otherwise, if you mean the height adjustment that is on the monitor (without the stand) you can position the mount to the max height or hold the mount, then adjust it. But this is tricky 😉 I hope this helps!

@@EverythingPractical Hi. Well that was my point... If I want to raise or lower the monitor straight up or down it would appear that this sort of arm not good as it can only move in an arc. Yes you can adjust that back bit. I was referring to after it is all assembled. The LG Ergo Stand I think is more what I am after although LG doesn't sell it as an independent product.
@EverythingPractical
@EverythingPractical 3 жыл бұрын
Ah, I understand now. However, I find this small arc in the vertical axis hardly noticeable. At most you need to slightly reposition yourself when you raise and lower the stand, which you would likely need to do either way when adjusting the screen position. You also are able to move the monitor further back with the Ergotron. If you have a deep desk, this is less of an issue, but consider the viewing distance to your monitor. My recommendation is still the Ergotron.

I would remove it only from the middle portion and leave the mount and one arm connected. To the table. So, the reverse process of assembly. Good luck 🙂

Hello, I am happy to help. I am not sure what you are trying to do exactly. What do you mean by moving the VESA panel? Is the monitor mounted?
@EverythingPractical

It is very difficult to change the angle of the VESA plate without the monitor mounted. Once everything ia mounted, you shouldn't have any issue titling your monitor. It is stiff, but needs to be to hold the monitor as you want.

Ah, I understand. So, I recommend mounting the monitor to the Ergotron arm, placing the arm on the stand table mount (already mounted to the table of course) and then you will have no problem swiveling or rotating into the position as you wish.

Hi, do you know what is the minimum thickness of the table for the setup the Ergotron + 34" monitor (about 7.5 kg)? I have 1.5 cm table desk (chipboard) and I'm afraid it could be broken of the setup :)
@EverythingPractical
@EverythingPractical 2 жыл бұрын
A minimum thickness is hard to say as it will always depend on the material. In your case with chipboard, it could work if you think it is stable enough. If not you could try using additional shims as support.

Has it actually been keeping up your CF/CJ791? Been looking at way too many reviews by now, and.. reports are all over. Has it started sagging over time? Am trying to find an arm to keep it above my 49" - which this one might be a bit too low for, but, there's that "extra tall" option that might be the one to get for that. Thanks,
