I’ve always been such a fan of the erhu, so it’s really cool to see someone learning it! Lovely video :)

A very inspiring video I also bought one from 8 tones and am taking inline lessons thru them on zoom My unboxing it and what I did provided many learning experience like breaking a string in the beginning, not understanding why it needs rosin…but it’s fun and I’m learning!

Thanks for watching! It’s really tough in the beginning, but super rewarding when it starts to sound right.

I’ve been playing for two years, semi self taught: try to find the exam grade pieces and work patiently on levels 1-3 they are really the foundation for the chinese repertoire. What you can learn by yourself is pitch and rhythm but getting the right timber is tricky and needs feedback from others

I'll look into those, thanks! It's a bit hard to find a teacher where I live but I'll probably take some online lessons to fix bad habits.

I saw a guitar in your bed room showed you know rhythm. Moreover, I noted you have good ears, the ability to identify relative pitches. So, you should be able to learn erhu fast. Being able to play in tune and on beat are the most important things. What you needed is how to make each of the notes to sound good. And this depends mostly on your bowing hand, i.e., your right hand. As you already learned how to play guitar, your left hand fingers on pressing the strings should not be a problem. Don't spend too much attention of your left hand. i.e., physical fingering exercise to play fast. Pay more attention on your bowing hand on how to sound good. That most basic 2 keys to sound good are: 1/ the bow must run horizontally and in a straight line; 2/ the speed must to steady/constant. With these 2 thing bear in mind, try different speed, different pressure to find which combination is best. Practice it until it become natural. Good luck.

I think my relative pitch has improved a bit since I picked up this instrument😄 Thanks a lot for the advice! will keep it in mind when I practice.

@@Matmakesmusic How to hold the bow is also important. There are many video on Utube on how to hold the bow. Good luck. btw., I am also used to be a guitar player, but give up after I observed that I don't have any improvement for some years. So I turn to Erhu. There is a different in playing guitar and Erhu. Guitar is mostly played for rhythm, while Erhu is for soloing. If a guitar player is asked to play something, he usually have difficulty to figure out what to play, unless he is a classical guitar player. But for a Erhu player, it is a easy.
