"You'll never press in real life" I got hurt at work when a coworker let a freezer fall on me (~300lbs or so) and I was pinned on my back with the freezer on my body and my immediate though was to shove it off. Well, it worked! In that moment I finally had a real life experience where my bench press actually mattered. Great shit.

wtf lol That happened to me I was carrying a fridge freezer backwards and my colleague lost his grip it landed on my shins pinned to the floor I mustered up the gusto and hoisted that shit off, shins were indeed a bit sour though. Picking up washing machines and hoisting then a meter in the air so you can double stack them that's some functional training if you ask me haha

look up overcoming isometrics, that is what most people call maxing out in isometrics. Bruce lee had a good system of pulling immovable bars at different heights. You can do this by hooking the bar underneath the resting handles of the squat rack and and tying to pull it up through the handles at various deadlift or curl/row heights, or you can push it with overhead press or squat heights. It is also fun to try and push the squat rack apart or pull it together, pushing a wall in a punching position is also good. You will find during this sort of training that having the full body locked into position and part of the lift is best.

Its a shame that almost nobody does this exercise anymore. Im at 2 plates max and its by far the hardest exercise to progress for me. Love it.
@theBenStrothmannАй бұрын
Thing about any exercise that grows your muscles is... it causes you to have more muscle. Which, regardless of coordination, mind-muscle-connection, etc., makes it stronger. That's the point of additional muscle fibre. And getting into any sport that requires strength as someone who is just fundamentally jacked will be a lot easier, because building muscle generally takes more time than the rest. So just by virtue of making you more muscular, an exercise is functional, in a sense.

He was given some of the basketball players to PT during there off seasons and he gave them 4 sets of BB back rows, after showing them how to do them they complained endlessly about how it was “too hard”. Bare in mind there wasn’t even 100 pounds on the bar and he only wanted 8 reps After he said to me “no wonder we lose every BB game we play, these guys are a joke”

people say overhead press is more "natural" or whatever than bench press but I disagree, the mid range of motion for human arms in front of our bodies, and when in use that's where they will msot likely be, not above us, but in front of us. We are forward facing animals, we push things forward, we push people forward, we push ourselves up off the floor, we push thigns off of our bodies. Pushing something over your head happens far less often.

I'm never gonna overhead press anything in real life?? I work at a primary school, kids ask to be carried on my back and shoulders every single day. Very recently a group of them were testing my strength and wanted to see if I could press two of them above my head. So with one kid hanging from each hand I basically did a lopsided chaos dumbell press. It's win-win as well, because while the kids get to enjoy my strength, I get some extra reps in 👍
