In the early 60s the TV was even more conservative than it is today. The producers always told the R&R stars to tone it down to a white homogenized frequency. Lol lol. You will note that all the wild stars would give a conservative performance. Look at the Beatles, Stones , Yardbirds, the were all so well groomed that every single hair was in place lol. This performance by the Animals is actually wild for the TV fashion of those days.

I was in SE Asia in the 60s, but not in Vietnam. "We Gotta Get Outa This Place" was called the unofficial anthem of The Nam for the American GIs. I also enjoyed "Sky Pilot". I think the name goes back to World War 2 and refers to the Padres who offered comfort for the poor fucks who had to go out and kill or be killed. As an Air Force guy, knowing my kind were dying in SE Asia, it was pretty intense.

His voice... forget the Beatles or Stones. That comes straight from his heart and slams into mine... and has for more than 60 years. ❤

i think the Beatles are the most over-rated band in history, and have done since i was a child in the 70's. The animals are a league above them in every way as are many other bands imho.

Well said. Everybody is forgotten, just him now. I first heard Eric Burton of the Animals over the radio when I was 12 (in Hong Kong). I had no idea of what he was singing then. But his VOICE was MAGICAL. He was calling out ... calling out... Now, I am 72 years old, I understand. I comprehend what he was singing. His voice is the only meaningful connection of the past 60 years I've lived.

@@ravenmasters2467well I have to agree with u I think the Beatles are really the most overrated band period of all time there music sucks there’s better bands that are way better then the Beatles first The Rolling Stones amazing band they have been around way way longer then the Beatles made better songs and albums the song satisfaction was a big hit all over the world 1965 the stones have been around for 60 years now the Beatles they were only around for 8 short years what in the hell did the Beatles do in 8 years well they hardly toured the Beatles haven’t toured since 1966 and they only made 13 albums the stones were already a big touring band in the early 70’s while the Beatles broke up another band that’s better then the Beatles is The Dave Clark 5 glad all over knocked the Beatles I wanna hold your hand off the charts in 1964 I think the animals are even better then the Beatles

It's very odd that English bands in the 60s taught kids about the Blues, something that Black musicians in the U.S. had been doing for decades. We neved paid attention to them until British bands covered their music.

Hey pops, I'm a 17 years old little man loving The Animals' music. I assure you people my age still listening to these kinds of music. Now, I didn't want to be impolite. I don't actually speak English so I don't really know if I said it OK. I wanted to sound "rebel" but I don't know how to do it because I'm not like that. Pops is like little grandpa or something like that right? In Spanish is "Abue" or "Abuelito" which means, as you can tell, grandfather lul. Heh, I'm embarrassing myself writing this so take care.

Much respect to all Vietnam Vets. Thank you for your service. I'm a 65 year old female & I was still in grade school when this song came out. I had two older brothers in junior/senior year of high school that listened to this song on repeat so it quickly became a favorite of mine. I have been singing this song to myself (and sometimes softly out loud) so my co-workers can hear me, at almost every job I have ever had in my life. lol. It always makes me smile no matter how bad the day is going. My colleagues are usually not familiar with the song but it always puts a smile on their faces too.
