My brother was the creative director for this spot and the whole "The Night Belongs to Michelob" series. I have a session tape. The stories he had were so much fun - I remember my mom telling me, "Pete is working with Eric Carlton?" Mom, Clapton?! The platinum album bears my brother's name - he passed away in August of this year.

I'm Class of 1986, I was talking to a woman and she said she was Class 0f 88, and I said when I think of 88 I think of Michelob beer and this song. Her eyes lit up and she remembered the commercials. 1988 was the glory days, now I drink Arnold palmers and hang out at Lowes instead of the bar.

This is suck a kickass version of writer JJ Cale and artist Eric Clapton 'After Midnight'. I just heard it on New Zealand radio station 'The Sound' [ www.thesound.co.nz/home.html ] Southland frequency 98.0FM, with DJ Dave White on deck. Now after the song had ended Dave gave we listeners the info that the version of 'After Midnight' that had just aired/played was and I quote 'An alternative 1988 remix]. So as I believed it was such an awesome version [the CRACK/meatier] sound of the snare drum was what particularly caught my attention. So congratulations to your brother Pete, he definitely knows his stuff/audio engineering skills. Omg I just read the end sentence of your comment and am so sorry to learn your bro passed away. Condolences Katherine Bauer that is so sad. Nevertheless I bet your wonderful bro led a full life. Audio engineers are special people. Can remember watching many films/documentaries on television of various rock star artists of the '60s/'70s/'80s era and seeing audio engineers in music making studios working hard while simultaneously puffing away like puffing Billy on cigs - so loving their work. Wow your bro worked some big time cheeses alright v fortunate man. And like I say this version of After Midnight really caught my ear today [16/07/2021] here in New Zealand - it clearly stood out to all other versions I have heard. I have loved music all my life. Bought my very first vinyl LP at the age of 12 with money I earned working a milk vendor round in the morning/afternoon, got paid $12 week in 1976 and it was good money and we worked hard for it too - I was only a small teenager, we worked in all weathers and where I live [bottom of the South Island] it can get real cold & wet especially in winter. I could carry 2 hand-held crates of 6 bottles of full 600ml milk each, one in each hand and run at the same time. We never walked. It got me really fit and I won the Intermediate School Form 2 Cross Country race for boys that year - quite a feat. It was the start of my 24 year sporting career. It came to abrupt end in 1990 at the height when I was a very successful road cyclist, triathlete and marathon runner - when I had my near-death motorcycle accident that ultimately resulted in me losing my entire left leg as high up as hip and left side of my pelvis, plus I suffered several serious internal injuries as well. But I had no head injuries and my spinal chord wasn't damaged. Doctors & surgeons who saved my life believed my high fitness level helped considerably in my surviving. Spent 101 days in 2 hospitals. Have suffered ever since from chronic stump neuropathic nerve pain that can be debilitating. However I continued in sport. In 1994 I set the World's Fastest Time for a lower limb amputee using crutches without a prosthesis or just on my one good right leg over the Marathon. My time of 5 hours 58 minutes 13 seconds remained unbeaten for 19 years and the amputee who beat it used hi-tech advanced crutches with built-in shock absorbers that provide a definite advantage over standard hospital crutches that I used. Between 1991 and 1998 I completed 6 half and 6 full Marathons on crutches on one leg. However such extreme performance doesn't come without a cost. In 2010 I had my good right leg hip joint replaced. I am married to the most amazing wife/woman/person in the world who is obviously my rock. She is easily my equal and has kept me in line when I stray sometimes...Oh and the first vinyl LP I ever bought when I was 12 was and I still have it in my collection: Deep Purple 'Machine Head'...In 1988 I traveled to London on my O.E. [overseas experience] when I was 25. I was fortunate to see Pink Floyd play Wembley Stadium on Saturday August 6th 1988. Please click here to see my photos from the gig and other pics taken when I was in London and at Tracks Travel in Brookland, Romney Marsh working at the bus depot - I was a NZ trade certificate qualified truck & bus mechanic: www.flickr.com/photos/35707376@N00/29866632340/in/album-72157673246424191/

Only EC could cover a great tune true to the original JJ Cale masterpiece and then cover it in a way only a true bluesman could. The 1988 alternative version is truly a work of art. A timeless classic that just blows my mind every time I hear it. The 1st time was on MTV and my jaw hit the floor, it was an amazing experience sitting on my couch in Houston, Tejas and had to shake, jump and shout. And it wasn't even midnight more like 10 on a Saturday morning...
