So glad they came back on stage featuring the second guitar.with a great song and finished up with another great song.featuring the great Eric Clapton and the rest of this great band. For sure they love Philadelphia with such a magnificent audience.

Eric Clapton was the greatest guitar man of his time; hell, he was the greatest ever. He made my speakers come alive and dance in my brain.

I was at this show, the first of 4 times I've seen EC. I found my ticket stub. $18.50!

I scalped tix right before show time, my seats were on the first level, to Clapton's right (stage right) slightly above the stage, not bad for last minute. Excellent gig. Witnessed many a fine show and other events at The Spectrum, many great memories.

saw this tour in Sacramento, Ca. In Eric's biography, 'Survivor', he humbly states that "... Knopfler is a far better guitarist" than he. So when I got to the show and saw that Mark was included in the band, I almost fainted! also of mention was the opening act, Buckwheat Zydeco laying down some cool cajun-pop-R&B-bluesy rock.

I doubt that Mark would be a better gitarist then Eric. Both are very good and yet different. I like them both.
@daleedmisten12813 жыл бұрын
@@laszlodezsi1880 it was Clapton himself who said it, and of course it was HIS opinion

Clapton was just being gracious Mr Knofler is good but not in Clapton's league. He's in a league of his own no one else comes close to Clapton.

You have to be Eric Clapton to have Mark Knopfler on second guitar.

The vice versa is true as well since Clapton played rhythm guitar for dire straits on a few occasions.

Jeez, all the band is on at this Philly evening. The Spectrum is always a great place for historic concerts. The Grateful Dead played dozens of brilliant gigs there. I've just only missed the Knopfler solo in "Same Old Blues"

I'm pretty sure I was at this gig. The Spectrum. Lynyrd Skynrd were the night before and Grateful Dead the night after. The Crossroads Box Set tour?

What's very interesting here (: apart from Mark and Alan from Dire Straits showing up :) is Mark's outro solo on Sunshine of Your Love. It's got elements of his style but a lot of the choice of notes is rather unlike him.

Eric and Nathan start trading licks during "Same Old Blues" @about 1:08:30, then Nathan is featured and scats around 1:09:30/40 until the break @about 1:11:30 after which Eric introduces him, in return Nathan introduces Eric around 1:13:30 shortly before the finish of the song. Nice jam on that one (nice five string bass btw).

I know it was in-style back then to have black back-up singers, but they sure did not fit his music. When the black girl just screams, ruined the song. I bet he regrets those decisions. p.s. I notice he doesn't use them anymore.
