I Hope everybody sees the gem of a recording he left us to learn from.. whether you want to learn it fast by ear or slow it down the first section of his improv from 31 seconds to 36 seconds is beautiful insight into the open voiced chords of Eric Johnson..& just amazing in general ..... listen to it slow, sounds amazing as well, watch the elegance of the technique in slow mo and the note choice ...every video has a gem somewhere it seems, He is so humble he acts like he doesn't have the CLEANEST, THE SMOOTHEST, THE DEADLIEST FENDER CLEAN TONE ON EARTH period........ Or does he know ? .... Who knows ... Mind Blowing the music you have created here on this planet Eric .......... Your Humbling yet Intimidating Guitar Mastery & Musical Essence will show its influence as time goes by with the disciplined player with an ear and Love for the craft .......

This is so great because its not "produced". Love to hear all the weird harmonics jumping off in the room.

So this is proof that even Eric’s gorgeous tone can still sound the same with “ir’s”. It’s time to embrace the technology folks!

What does he mean without using speaker cabinets ? I see that he is using the Marshall ones. I don’t get it.
@Diax13245 жыл бұрын
I'd suspect the reason he didn't end up liking this is that he utilizes a certain degree of speaker distortion with the dirty rhythm side that ox box's don't do.

Was EJ going thru the OX boxes the entire video? Where was the sound coming from in the vid? Speaker cabs or monitors from the OX boxes?
@mrfuzztone6 жыл бұрын
My guess is a direct recording of the output of the OX. It sounds that good. I have one. Great stuff.
@insidertompettytheheartbre75266 жыл бұрын
@@mrfuzztone I have one as well and love it. I was part of a discussion wondering what the audio source was, OX or cabs. Can't see any PA or monitor speakers so just curious on where it was coming from. My guess was the OX but some people disagreed.
@Diax13245 жыл бұрын
Ox boxes into a PA system.
@ChristEnlightening2 жыл бұрын
He literally says it’s ox box straight into the pa in the video. Just because you can’t see the speakers doesn’t mean shit. He said that’s wtf is going on. There’s a whole forum ab this lmao it’s a big ass room, Eric is the one important for the video, not the pa. Even the ox box is more important hence why it made an appearance - most people know what a pa is, but not everyone know about ox boxes…

I think he's probably going for "not the same". We all should aim for that. And I think it's pretty tough to feel that "wow" factor anymore since we have been desensitized by the likes of KZbin.

From what I heard, he maintained a very heavy practice schedule back then with almost no social life. As years went by he decided to ease up on the practicing and enjoy his life a bit more. He worked so hard on Musicom it almost killed him, literally. So yes he lost that dazzling virtuosity, but kept all the other aspects. Chet Atkins and Steve Morse said 5 hours per day was required just to be able to play their own catalog. And judging from EJ's catalog, you can bet it takes at LEAST that much. That's just too much of a burden at some point. I can barely practice 2 hrs a day because I hate it LOL
