He has clearly taken good care of himself. Can't always say that for every musician. He's almost 70, yet still singing beautifully and rocking out better than a lot of players half his age. I'm totally fanboy-ing right now and I don't care. Such consistent dedication and passion of this magnitude is a great sight to see. I've only seen him once for half of an all acoustic set, but I still feel very fortunate to have witnessed such greatness. Bless EJ for all the incredible artistry he has shared with the world.

The first time I saw Eric was at Rockefeller's in Houston in 1982. It's a small venue that holds about 250 people at the most. He was 28 and his improv solos would go for 10-12 minutes on songs like Zap. He was so good, I decided to NOT become a professional musician and decided to go to college!!! That's a true story.... The whole world found out about him in 1986 with the cover of GP magazine and that was that.....

I saw I’m rite after mag cover in dc. He came out talked to people. It was great. I got lucky I ( now people know about piano )I asked if he started song s on piano then guitar. He was surprised said yes asked his I knew. Said I tried. Song that are easy in piano have crazy. Hard chords to hold guitar like yours . He stayed after 20 minutes talking. To peple

@johndboran, I live in the Houston area and saw EJ many times at Rockefellers in the 80s and 90s. First saw him in Austin in 1983 at the former Austin Opera House. I was blown away. He opened with Soulful Terrain.

I discovered him from a windsurfing video in 85. I’ve been entranced ever since. My favorite album was Tones. But I have never seen him fully improv a solo in my life. Eric has always been known as such a perfectionist. I remember reading in the 90s that it took him a year to record Au Via Musicom because he literally punch recorded every note. He also altered room dynamics with acoustic gobos on what we would call a “granular” level in todays terms.

First time I saw EJ was 1981 at Cheatum Street Pub. Which was a converted train station. Quite small. The second or third time I went to see him play there, I saw a van in the back of the pub parked close to the train side with access to where the little stage was setup inside the pub. I got close and could here the Strat guitar being played with no amp. The sliding side door was kinda open, this was Texas, so heat happens 😂, and I peeked around and I see Eric head down practicing his runs. I said, “Sorry to bother you, hope it’s ok to say hi and tell you how big of a fan I am!” He was so cool and polite and even said he appreciated me saying hi. We have always thought of EJ as our local Texas Guitar Hero. Humble and hungry to get better every day. So thankful for the many times I got to see EJ and SRV in and around San Marcos, Austin and Gruene,Texas while just starting college. Still my hero and an inspiration as a guitar player and musician.

He's a cool guy too. I have met and talked to him many times over the last THIRTY years. It's really neat to talk to one of your heros when they turn out to be really cool guys. Ulrich Roth was another one who so cool, just a great guy to hang out with. Eddie was a total jerk. Steve Vai is also nice guy that will talk to you.

Damn I hope I still got it when I’m that age. Not that I can play like him, but I’m always pushing for the upper level guitar skills. At least I hope nothing forces me to slow down, but I take really good care of myself at age 35. I think Eric’s only addiction in his lifetime, was music. Probably speaks to his longevity.

I saw Eric doing this show in Tulsa last summer at Cains ballroom. I really like what he's doing, having another guitar player on stage with him., who is also great. I hope I'm that healthy when I,m 69....dang it was good to see you Eric...I actually hadn't seen you since the 80's at Dallas Alley...where you said "They can hear us on the 72nd floor of the World Trade Center"...man you got nothing but better this whole time. I saw Eric for the first time when he was on ACL (a million years ago) and instantly fell madly in love from so many angles. This was my favorite song from that show and still is today. Just recently, Eric played in my hometown and I had the privilege of seeing him from the 4th row. He's still got it and I am still in love. ❤ He's not only an outstanding guitar player, but so humble and sweet.
