Eric Singer Points Out Ace Frehley & Peter Criss Inconstincies on Their KISS Complaints!

I understand Ace and Peter's unhappiness with the makeup situation, but Ace chose to leave on his own accord back in both 1982 and 2002. Thayer was in the band for 21 years and Singer for a total of 26 years, considerably longer than Ace's 15 years and Criss' 12, where he didn't even play on Dynasty, Unmasked, and Psycho Circus (only coming in for singing). Thayer and Singer also never got a choice to make their own characters, as Paul Stanley said, "The People want to see the Starchild, Demon, Spaceman, and Cat-Man," (Stanley, 2010) which was possible because both Ace and Peter sold their rights to Paul and Gene. Additionally, neither Eric Carr nor Vinnie Vincent got a say in their makeup designs (Fox and Aank Warrior), as they were both designed by Paul and Gene, with Ace contributing on Carr's. Lastly, Ace has been very sloppy and lost his 'loose but tight' feel and has become a shell of his former self, and Peter was given a 3rd chance from 2003-2004, which he still messed up. Thayer first filled in for half a show back in 1998 when Ace had to take a helicopter to a show due to him being too hungover which caused him to miss his flight, the first of many situations where his drinking would impact his ability to perform with Kiss, where on the other hand, Thayer and Singer have been and remain tight as fit for the stage. Ace and Peter will always be appreciated for their contributions in helping Gene and Paul form Kiss, but when they weren't able to play as well, it became necessary to bring in Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer, just as it was needed for Bruce Kulick to replace Mark St. John after just 7 months back in 1984. Space Ace, Cat-Man, Fox, Aank Warrior, St. John, Kulick, Singer/Cat-Man 2, and Spaceman are all amazing and important to Kisstory!

Another proof that the KISS make-up years creativity mostly stopped in 1982-83 with Vinnie Vincent having his own character. It's another reason he's more charismatic than Eric Singer, Bruce and Tommy T. Personal opinion, but for me the 2 last albums are semi official albums as Carnival of Soul is.

End of the day, Paul and Gene were calling the shots and nothing was sacred. Just because you have the rights to something does not take away who created it. It was always an issue with the fans for a reason and as much as they like to deny it, it was never accepted. Proof of that was Eric was asked and he was talking about it. The real reason was money, Bruce Kulick said Kiss would make $3-5M without make up and $48-50M with the makeup. However, they stuffed up their legacy by not having the original 4 for the last show. The fans were disappointed but Gene and Paul did not want to part with an equal 4 way split, thats obvious.

Eric and Tommy are both great musicians in their own right, and I don’t blame either of them for the makeup situation. Gene and Paul are definitely to blame for that. Honestly I think that it’s a shame that they were forced to take on Ace & Peter’s personas and playing styles, and I feel like the fans were cheated in a way because of this. Imagine what Kiss could have created if Eric and Tommy’s own styles had been better utilized for the last 20 years! I personally would have rather seen the band without the makeup or with new makeup for Eric and Tommy but with new material instead of practically the same old show over and over for the last 2 decades. Tommy and Eric are both very talented and Eric has a great singing voice, I just really feel like they could have made some great new stuff had Gene and Paul used their talents better. As far as Ace and Peter go, I think that they both need to let go of their bitterness. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of both of them, and I do believe that Gene and Paul have done them dirty in some ways over the years, but they aren’t totally innocent in any of this themselves and at this point it just seems like they’re being immature. It’s time to leave the past in the past, at least for the sake of us fans. I just hate that there’s so much hate between the past and most recent members of the band right now. It’s doing all of us fans who REALLY kept Kiss going a huge disservice. I just wish that everyone would move on so that we could have some better collaboration for what’s to come now that it’s all over such as the Kiss Conventions, future cruises, etc.

The Facts are that Eric and Tommy made their living playing the music Ace And Peter helped create from the beginning then wearing their makeup they were nothing but hired musicians that mimicked the music and the look they became Paul and Gene's puppets No matter what anyone thinks or says there was nothing better than the original lineup even Paul and Gene know it because they spent 10 plus years playing from their original 6 albums till the last concert so Eric and Tommy enjoy the money and take a seat

Gene & Paul had the rights to the make up designs as Peter & Ace sold their rights to them long ago. Gene & Paul felt that creating new characters was too much of a hassle (like when trying to figure out Eric Carrs) and fans wanted the Catman & Space Ace. Think about it over a period of 50 years how many Supermans and Batmans have there been? Hell even the Wiggles didn't change the colour of the shirts when Greg, Murray & Jeff left. Though their handling of Sam Moran (2nd yellow wiggle) left a lot to be desired.

First of all Peter Criss sold the rights to his makeup and royalties Ace frehley didn't that's why every time Tommy put on Ace Frehley's makeup he got paid and Ace frehley still gets royalties to this day from merchandise.

I believe the originals should be back together (gene,paul, Peter & Ace )... With eric singer and tommy thayer gone because when they play here at Detroit's LCA with eric and tommy it was bad I mean horrible Paul was lip singing /eric drumming was way off and sloppy his vocals you can tell weren't his along with his piano playing / tommy guitar playing was also sloppy ... I think Eric's statements are BS. In both cases, there were contracts involved. Ace was under contract for the Farewell shows Singer was involved in. Ace had signed his contract while they were trying to negotiate with Peter. Peter never agreed to a contract, but the assumption was that he would. Similarly Peter was understanding Ace was to be involved when he signed a contract. So Singer's statements are kind of out of context and don't hold up.

I've been saying this for a while, that when it was 3 originals and only one "filling in" in the makeup it was more accepted, because they were just filling the spot. But once it was just Gene and Paul and then had both Tommy and Eric in the makeup thats when fans were less receptive as it was no longer just filling a spot, they were then actual replacements.

I don't know if I'm right or wrong , or if there is a right or wrong . But here's how I feel ; If Paul and Gene feel confident enough in the Strength and Musical Talent of the Band (and we all know they do) , then the Makeup should be worn ONLY by the Original Four Members . That would eliminate so much BS arguing between Fans and Members . My personal opinion is like everyone else's , it really doesn't matter . But I don't think Eric and Tommy should be wearing it . Speaking of Tommy , I have a question for anyone who might have an answer . I've asked this in several different Forums and Columns and Posts just to satisfy my own curiosity . And I guess it's not really even that important . But , after Ace left , Bruce Kulick was a member for about 12 years ? Why , when Paul and Gene decided to put the Makeup back on , did they boot Bruce ? That seemed like a pretty shitty thing to do . But there's probably a lot of details about that situation I'm not aware of . I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe . 🎸

The imposters in kiss were a mistake. I knew it when they did it. The reason Eric got away with it was because he already in the band and loved. I actually thought after that tour “The Hawk” would fly. thayer had no reason being in kiss. Frehley, Vincent, Kulick….thayer. KISS not selling out both of their last 2 shows at MSG prove I’m right. 50% of KISS fans chose to stay home. I think ESP kicks serious ass.

It's not. It was just a standard picture. No KISS tribute and certainly similar enough to the numerous other metal bands putting out similar group shots. I worked at my college radio station when that album came in and we spun it. No one in the room even made a KISS comparison.
