im trying my first attempt in propagating my monstera and its going really well, it has some roots developing. It's been 3 weeks since I first cut it and I'm so excited to see my monstera ready to be planted. I change the water every week with filtered water and its going really well. I'm planning to but my monstera in a pot with a first layer of leca and on top of it the soil, so the plant will obtain the nutrients it needs and I will prevent it from overwatering with the first layer of leca

I killed all my expensive plants (monstera albo, thai constellation, variegated banana musa, etc). Everyone are against miracle grow but my mom been doing gardening since forever and all of her plants are so full and huge and she just use regular dense soil from the backyard too because she didn't have a chance to go to the store to buy any expensive soil. I will just downgrading and using basic things now.

I make my own potting mix and its way cheaper plus it allows you to adjust mixture to the plant. Basicallt its perlite, peat moss and compost. I also added some worm castings and the fertilizer was a cheap bag they sell at big box stores...I have no green thumb but all my plants are thriving

@retape101 Жыл бұрын
uhhh if you got flying mosquitos youre not changing your water nearly enough. Propogating plants should realistically have their water changed every 3 or 5 days to help change out the oxygen in the water. Still water is bad for plants and a magnet for mosquitos. Its the same reason fix tanks need to water be constantly in motion so the fishes are able to breathe.

Hi! I think that Monstera is a Borsigiana, not a Deliciosa. Because it tends to be leggy; thus, it trails fast. Also, unlike the Borsigiana, Deliciosa's petioles grow next to each other. So they appear fuller than the Monstera Borsigiana. Both Monsteras look the same aside from: Borsigiana's leaves are smaller than the Deliciosa's. And as I have said earlier, they tend to trail more since they're leggy just like Monstera Adansonii.

Okay just to verify a couple of things. So once all the leica balls are in your container, you fill up approximately a quarter of the way with water? And then, when do you add new water? Do you wait till everything evaporates? And then it is my understanding that the roots are put in say halfway into the container since you don't want the roots setting in the water that you fill up?
@EricabyDesign3 жыл бұрын
Yup, quarter way filled with water, then once the water level goes down to just about dry that’s when I’ll water again. 😊

Can you propagate in autumn (uk)
@EricabyDesign4 жыл бұрын
Best time to propagate is early spring because the plant knows it’s time to grow. Autumn the plants are usually thinking it’s time to go dormant so you might not have as much luck, but if it’s indoors and warm or you have a sort of greenhouse area (you can just make a glass cabinet with grow lights and a humidifier) then definitely you can propagate during autumn. Hope this helps 😊

Thank you so much for this video! Haven't discovered Leca before today and i shall look to purchase some for my newly adopted Monstera. Much love from Malaysia! Question, say if my Monstera's aerial root is trimmed a couple days ago, is it safe to still cut it off from the mother root plant and propagate it in water? It was trimmed as it was sticking to the wall where it was attached to. 2nd question, Malaysia doesn't have 4 seasons, so that means the plant doesn't go into a dormant stage right? Meaning i can apply fertilizer any time of the year?
@EricabyDesign4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching 😊 yes still safe to cut it off from mother plant as long as you cut a stem with a node. Also Malaysia has wet and dry season - plants usually grow during the dry season when it’s sunnier, (wet season plants are more dormant) so best to fertilize then 😊
