The display blows your hair back the first time you use it, not only that but it actually gets bright enough to see in full sunlight. First time I've used an AMOLED display that can do that. Only thing I'm disappointed with is the smudge that shows up in some pictures, but then again I rarely take pictures so it's not a big deal for me. How do you like yours?

Gorilla glass 4 is great. I dropped my note 4 at home Depot from about 3 feet face down and it slid for another 3 feet and the phone was still looking flawless. I thought my phone was gone. Lol

One thing that's really holding me back from instantly pulling the trigger on the Note 4 is the apparently bad audio quality from the headphone jack. I use my phone for a lot of music, and it doesn't help that the Note 4 skips on the audio department. However, I'm ready to jump ship to the AMOLED party, but the US Note's DAC is really, really discouraging. I do not want to go to Apple unless I really have to. So torn :/

Its the generic Snapdragon chipset isnt it? All sound cards usually are good nowadays and Im talking about wolfson vs SD audio chip. Out of the box, the 805 should give you native Dolby enhanced sound. In any case, you just root, flash v4a and you're good to go. If you dont like to root, try noozxoide. My HTC One on SD 600 currently sounds like a professional grade external DAC with v4a, Project ERA and of course my DNA buds. Hardware doesnt make much difference nowadays when it comes to audio, especially if you're into modding your device. Its the software that matters. My advice would be to skip the Samsung crap straight away and root it.

XDKX101 to be perfectly honest with you, I've never had a rooting experience. I also have an HTC one M7 now, and it is regarded as one of the best even without mods. I just don't want to spend 700+ USD that still requires me to spend time to adjust it, especially mods that might brick my device.

Benjamin Huang Since you say you dont have any experience with rooting, etc, I will try to help you out with it. The key to success here is research and by that I mean take the time to READ EVERYTHING. xda developers has everything for you, just google note 4 xda and it will come up. I recommend you familiarize yourself with the site, and the way things work first. That said, rooting will most likely never have a chance of bricking. The only time you brick a device is if you try flashing something via recovery and your battery dies or if you try flashing something not meant for your device. Rooting is a much lower level process that sometimes doesnt even require you to flash a custom kernel. Just read it up properly on the right note 4 forums and you will understand. Even if you brick your device, as long as you are able to power it on, you can recover it. If all else fails, you can once again reflash stock Samsung firmware on fastboot, that will almost definitely unbrick your device. Hopefully, that gave you a bit of an insight on the Android hacking community. You think the m7 sounds good on stock quality, wait till you hear v4a. The increase in quality is almost unreal, to be honest. It gives you a ton of controls, from soundstage to bass depth to clarity to surround level, depth etc. Again, this audio is on a completely different level, so to get there, you need to go through the rooting process first. I consider myself a serious audiophile, having modded out my One to the max with audio enhancements, moved up to a Monster DNA from Sennheiser cx980s (now saving for ie800s). Hopefully, this will let you at least have a look at this. Let me know if you have any more questions. Good luck.

Benjamin Huang Also regarding your comment on not wanting to spend time adjusting your device, if you are after this path, then I'd recommend the M8, or the coming M9, SONY or an iPhone. Those have the best stock output. Of course in my case, I want the absolute, absolute maximum from mine so I am willing to put in the extra work to get it :)

21:50 Install Nova Launcher. Nova settings> Gestures and buttons> Swipe Down/expand notifications. You don't need to swipe from the very top. You can swipe down from anywhere.

Erica, great idea to put the time codes for the various sections of your videos. Just got a Note 4, and honestly it's a bit overwhelming. This indexing of your video allows me to get what I can absorb, practice some, and come back a couple days later and go on to the next part. Wonderful, and damn do you know your stuff!

Maybe private mode, health features, one handed use, all the stuff the spen can do doesn't appeal to you but they could benefit many - eg a device that keeps a record of your health will come in handy when seeing the doc as they will be able to see it. There is a comment on another youtube comparison review, where one commentor is arguing that all these features are useless and make the device lag where as the less featured iphone is smooth. It's nice to have a choice, you can always turn them on or off - that's cool

It's ALWAYS better to have the additional features and have the OPTION to use it, than to NOT have the option and possibly need it! Especially when your're paying LESS if not the same than for a device with LESSER features. I assumed that was common sense.

I got this device not too long ago and i love it. I used to have the note3, switched to LG G3 for a closer Android taste. I'm glad what samsung did with TouchWiz, first time i have this long with the stock UI (i always had Nova launcher installed) i hope they keep the improvements with a little of their own twist. I feel like after you do a full review its over with the device and if i would want to get it 6 months after, many things may have been changed. Erica, I just wanted to say thank you for such a detailed review on the Note 4. I was not thrilled about getting the phone. Not a big fan of BIG phones. I was given this by my carrier to replace the S5 that broke on me and they did not have anymore. So they gave me this instead. You showed me a lot of things about this phone that I was not aware of. Very good review. You managed to mention all points both negative and positive which put my mind at rest where the 'smudgy' effect is concerned. I am very happy with my Note 4 after proudly using the Note 2 for 2 years. The Samsung Note series together with the stylus and dedicated softwar are the best phablets hands down.

I'm strongly considering a move from the iPhone 5S to the Galaxy Note 4. I am so tired of the iMessage system constantly crashing, and the small floating keyboard just does not work for my large hands. I'm intrigued by the S-Pen on the Note 4, and LOVE the true multitask feature of the Note 4.

Great video. My wife and I both have the Note 4 and love it. Still learning things, especially S Pen. Speaker on back is dumb though. Stereo speakers on front MUST be on top & bottom of phone for proper separation when watching videos or playing games widescreen.

There is an app for gestures, and you can just slide down the screen (anywhere) with your finger and it pulls the notification bar. Just something you may want to try.

Just an insight: When you say that your battery performance dropped when you switched from the T-Mobile version to the AT&T version and you don't know why, the answer is in your next part where you discuss the call quality. You say that you live in an area where AT&T connectivity is not so good and T-Mobile has a good reception, that means when you use the AT&T version, the phone actually spends a lot more time(& battery) searching for reception which eats up the battery quicker!

Another great review Erica. If someone truly has a use for such a device, there is nothing else available that compares with it. The large size is obviously necessary to obtain the best results, but too large for me all the same.
