I love these videos! You’re absolutely right about most KZbin sharpening videos. Most of them especially from big accounts or companies don’t really show the troubleshooting needed if something goes wrong. This is especially helpful for us noobs at sharpening. Keep doing it your way👍.

Great video as usual. I just got in from using my shit (I will never not use that phrase without attribution to you, Erica). Funny enough, I went over to my sharpening table and stropped my Mora Companion HD before I even took my hat off, because unlike trust fund babies with safe queens, we need to frequently maintain our edges. I’m making a spatula out of maple for my daughter, so that she’ll have something that I made with my own hands to use when she cooks the recipes that I’ve taught her that require lots of stirring. I use wooden utensils to keep from dinging the edges of my pots and pans. 🤗💕

Free hand sharpening is like any skill. Just keep at it and you will get good. True, I have been a woodworker, bushcrafter and part time butcher for going on forty years. So maybe it is easy for me to say. On the other hand I have been welding for a bit more than a year now. In the beninning I didnt know what I was doing, now I can get by. So dont give up, free hand sharpening is a worthwile skill to have.

Hi, over the last few months I've settled on using a dmt 600, and then either a balsa or bass strop, with 1 micron diamond emulsion, and just using this combo for all my knives,,,!! It seems to be working out great at the moment,,.. I've stopped chasing the perfect edge,, life's too short,, Lmfao,, All the best from across the pond,, 😍

Never been good at sharpening with just a plain stone. The one that I use has angle pieces at both sides to make sure I keep the same angle Everytime. It has two different diamond stones a white round stone that I don't use and a piece of leather for stropping. It works great. I noticed that the knives with crappy metal don't sharpen very well. I used to use one of those things that you pull a knife through then I used a machine which wrecked the blades now I use the thing with angles built in
