Apparently Gene Wilder improvised much of the movie. The intro of Wonka where he puts on a walk with a limp using the cane and then magically forward rolls implying he is fine was improvised. When asked the reason why Gene wanted to do that. He replied, because then it will add to the already established fact that we the viewers and characters never know when Wonka is being serious or not

@@salag13 I've read some time before, that this scene wasn't known to the actors except Wilder, who was told to chant this poem from the original book. I agree that Wilder's Wonka has a more sinister edge to him. You get the feeling that despite his joviality, there's a terrible fate in store for you if you displease him. Hell, when Mike signs the contract and brings up the movie where the husband kills his wife for the insurance money, Wonka says "Clever" like he appreciates the scheme. He's clearly a dude with some underlying rage and I would not want to be on his bad side.

Thank you. These are supposed to be two completely different Willy Wonkas with two completely different approaches to adapting the character. Depp will always be my Wonka, personally, as I grew up with him, and he simply just resonates with me more. (I also find it a bonus to know that he's more accurate to the book.) However, I still gotta give Wilder the credit he's due. His Wonka is still a good character in his own right divorced from other iterations, and Wilder's phenomenal acting did wonders to breathe life into this Willy Wonka
@anonymous-iy5pd11 ай бұрын
Theyre both well adapted from the original Wonka in the book and both bring life to character and succeeded at making an entertaining movie, they just took different creative paths, gene wilders wonka focus on the og Wonka's more manic and passionate traits and Johnny Depp's took on more of the og's social awkward and sassy tendencies amongst other things. They're both loyal to original material and portrayed a valid perspective of the story. Johnny's Wonka movie wasn't a remake of Gene Wilders, it was it's own adaptation of the book so it's redundant to even compare them in all honestly, the books title is Charlie and the chocolate factory but when making genes movie they changed it bc Willy Wonka is a more attention grabbing while promoting the movie, Johnny's movie chose the original book title because it wouldn't make sense not to since they wanted to be as clear as possible this wasn't a remake it was it's own adaptation. I really don't think someone who wanted to remake the gene wilder version would call up Tim Burton to direct. It could be argued Depp's version is more dedicated to the source material only because they had the means to portray things in the book that are more complex than they did in '71. So Genes movie had more tweaks to the plot and created a few full scenes that weren't canon to the book at all but were needed to keep the story moving and they did it fantastically.
