Anita Brookner's novel sounds very much like Elizabeth Taylor's Mrs.Palfrey at the Claremont, which I loved. Will put Hotel Du Lac onto my TBR list.

Yes, I read Taylor's novel for the first time earlier this year and they are somewhat similar. And both were such wonderful reads! I'd love to hear what you think of Brookner's novel when you get to it.

Of course I'd like to think you read Hotel du Lac after my comment on your Booker video last week! Anyways, I must go back to it and find out why it has sat so long on my shelf only half read.

Haha! I was reading it anyway. But glad we’re in sync and it’s really worth getting to it.

The Booker event sounds amazing, but that Samantha Harvey story is just the best! And you kill me with the mix of a super story and then a humble one about Table 1. 😂 I would love to see Ali Smith speak. I didn’t get on with All the World Beside, mostly for the children pov - I was turned off by the interior dialog of the very small child. Your comparison with Nathanial Hawthorn is interesting and I never would have drawn that connection, so thank you! Ok- I’m looking for A Little Trickerie. Band of outsiders, savvy youth, and gay friend? That sounds great. Yay for getting to Hotel du Lac!🎉 And I am looking forward to getting to Our Evenings. And I just love that cover.

Hey Sarah! Thank you! Wish you could have been at the Ali event. That's fair enough about Conley's novel. I had high expectations for it so it's a shame it didn't work better. I reckon you'll really enjoy A Little Trickerie - especially the voice of the narrator. I'm sure you'll love Hollinghurst's new novel!

Rao's Fertile Earth sounds captivating though for great tiger hunts James Bond in Octopussy is perhaps the best. The big cat roars at him and he commands it - with a wag of his forefinger - to "Sit". And it does. Likely FE will be on my next tbr, so, thx.

I read Hotel du Lac decades ago and adored it. It turned me into a big Brookner fan. You’ve made me want to revisit it. I’m hearing a lot about A Little Trickerie. Sounds very interesting. And I completely agree that November flew by!!

Our Evenings and There Are Rivers in the Sky have been carried over into December, as I haven’t finished them yet. Our Evenings is very cinematic and I can imagine it as a film or tv series. There are about 10/12 books I’d like read before all the new releases and book prizes begin in 2025. If I could stop adding new books to my TBR, I might have a chance of completing the project. Are there books you’d like to finish or read before 2025 books start to be released? Best books read in November Clear by Carys Davies The Snow Child Have you made your bookish Santa list? 🍀👋☘️📕📖📚☕️

They are both big reads but also ones worth taking your time with! Very hard to stop adding new books to the TBR. I'd like to read "Fathers and Fugitives" by SJ Naude before the end of the year. And I've made a big list for Xmas so hoping to get some books under the Christmas tree. 📚
