I've done the same on my flat bed and my toy hauler. Seems to work just fine. Keep up the good work with your video's.

If I had to mount it with the holes so close to the edge I'd run a piece of angle iron across the bottom to help distribute the pull force that it could experience under hard breaking. Also, flange hex head nuts aka steel cap screws are better for this application. The manufacture really needs to include them even if it raises the price.

Very good video! I have used these for years and love them! People keep commenting about being limited using the trailer for other tasks with the chocks mounted permanently to the deck but all you need to do is lay some 2x4s down and you're able to haul right over the top of the chocks... have hauled custom furniture pcs this way!
@Methodical23 жыл бұрын
I just installed these for the rear wheels on the Zero Turn mower (will use ratchet straps for the front now that the mower won't move). These are better than strapping my the mower at all sides as they tend to work loose no matter what I did. I am going to apply some anti skid tape on them for a bit more traction for those times when the tires get wet.

First off, I have a Mav Trail and I find your videos very informational. However, I have two comments about this one. If you use your trailer for other atv/utv permanently mounting something on your deck eliminates your use of those machines. I use mine for motorcycles, Argo, utv, snowmobile, trash, brush, etc. Secondly, when you tie your utv down, the weight should not be centered on the wheels but more forward to insure proper tongue weight. Trailers very but a landscape trailer uses about 150# on the tongue. Failure to do so may result in uncontrolled oscillation resulting in a major accident. I have seen it happen a number of times.Again, great job. Looking forward to your next video.

I agree with nearly everything you said. For me I don't use this trailer for much else. The wheel chocks are probably less than two inches tall, so they don't really get in the way of using the trailer for other things. After this video I added 4 large D-rings (one at each corner) to use to tie down other things that I may use the trailer for (my ATV for instance). The chocks do add something that you may have to work around for sure, but they're short enough that they aren't a huge issue, but that is something to consider when permanently mounting something to your trailer deck. You're right about tongue weight, the majority of the weight should be foreword of the trailer axle for the trailer to trail properly. The axle of my trailer is not in the center of the trailer, it's about a foot back from center. When deciding where to place my machine I ended up centering the engine of the UTV over the axle placing the vast majority of the weight on the axle and foreword of the axle. I've hauled this machine for over a year with this trailer before I added the wheel chocks and experimented with different placements of the machine on the trailer, this was the position I preferred. I appreciate your input, and thank you for watching. 👍

Nicely done, Just got them and putting them on as we speak. Best way to haul something I think because the tires stay solid and let the UTV move on the suspension.

First you have to make sure your boards are attached to the trailer. Some are just nailed on. I used 30 carriage bolts to make sure the deck is strong.

That's probably not a bad idea. My trailer is built very well, so none of that was needed.

Still a big fan of them. Used them for many thousands of miles at this point and they have not failed me. The yellow paint is fading, but no signs of rust or corrosion. Straps have no frays or any signs of wear or damage, I am very happy with these.

Another great video. Are you adding these to the toy hauler?? I m trying to figure out a quick release system so I can remove the chocks when the toy hauler isn’t hauling our Maverick. It’s used for living space while in Florida all winter. These chocks will sure simplify and speed up the process especially in a toy hauler. Also we’ll be in Marysvale the middle of September.
@MyATVlife5 жыл бұрын
Thank You ! Not adding these to my toy hauler for a few reasons. Biggest reason is that they just won't work in there. My MT is so tight between the bulkhead and the rear ramp that I have to suck it hard into the bulkhead just to get it to fit (letting a little air out of the rear tires helps a bit. This system just won't work in there because it pulls the machine (tires) straight down and I need to pull it foreword (hope that makes sense). Plus, as you pointed out, they aren't removable, and I use my garage for living space too. Another big reason is that my RV is a "four seasons" trailer, so it has an enclosed underbelly. So I'd have to take the underbelly off to gain access to the underside of the floor to tighten the bolts on the chocks, plus my fresh water tank is right there under the garage, so that makes things even more tricky, So as much as I'd love these in the toy hauler it just ain't happening. I do really like this system, it takes much less time strapping the machine down this way. September should be some awesome riding on the Paiute Trail this year. 👍

Your holes and bolts are to close the edge of the board. I will put mine across two boards.so the bolts are in the middle.

The machine is centered in the middle of the trailer (side to side). That's where they ended up. There are very large fender washers on the bottom. I've used this setup for well over 1300 miles at this point and it's holding up great.

Recently added D rings to my trailer. Then I re-read my Mav Trail manual. Says to tow with gearbox in Neutral. Ratchet straps always seem to loosen so I was concerned about my Trail moving around in Neutral while towing & loose straps. Decided to install & use the Erickson chocks on the rear axle only & also use four ratchet straps. Towed about 300 miles & very little SxS movement. Very satisfied. Do you tow in neutral?
@MyATVlife5 жыл бұрын
I don't tow in neutral for the same reason you stated. When I broke those straps on my Moab trip I was really glad my machine wasn't in neutral. At one stop one strap was broke and the other was really loose on the front of the machine. If it was in neutral the machine would have rolled all over the place. I get why they say to have it in neutral, but I just can't do it. I may now with this setup, still on the fence about it.
@kenlanders80833 жыл бұрын
LOL..... When they say tow in neutral they mean towing with another machine....not putting it in your trailer to tow home.
@scaryfriend14 жыл бұрын
Any issues with it sliding to the side at all? Looking at their Tire "basket strap" that puts more of a cradle over the top of the tire instead. Heard of some people when you have muddy tires that the strap can work its way off to the side of the tire with just the strap. Good posts.
@MyATVlife4 жыл бұрын
I've never had that issue. Well over 1,000 miles of towing with these and that has never happened. Several trips of 300 miles and not had that happen.

Is there any risk of damage to my quad (tie rods, etc) by using these? How has your experience been since you did this video 2 years ago? Thank you!
@MyATVlife2 жыл бұрын
I can't imagine their being much risk to suspension and steering components using these as the straps just hold the tire in place and allow the machine itself to move freely over bumps. I'm still very happy with this system. It's fast and easy to get the machine strapped down and just as fast and easy to loosen up and unload. Many thousands of miles towing my trailer with these, couldn't be happier.

Nice setup, but I questioned why you didn't position the wheel chocks in the center of 2 boards so the bolts aren't on the edge of the boards. Whats that sxs weight? The kit is only good for 1500lbs.
@MyATVlife5 жыл бұрын
I centered the machine on the trailer and that's how it all lined up. I have some big fender washers on the underside that grabs a good portion of the board next to it. My machine weighs around 1300, maybe 1400 lbs. I used two kits, one for the front axle and one for the rear, so I should be good.
