'how are lab humans a thing'. Honestly, this first season shows that this setting really is a dystopian setting. We see a few examples of how much power the corporations really have power, for example mum's robot company and this episode. They even mention that there's a cola made out of dead people (soylant cola, a reference to the movie soylant green). The mars university has a line where fransworth laughs at fry because of 'jungles of earth'. There's even machines to commit suicide for what, a quarter? Is that how cheap society sees humans? You don't get a choice in jobs, you gotta do what you gotta do. You literally get microchipped what job the government thinks you should do. So how are lab humans a thing? The short answer is because in my opinion this season shows what corporate america would become, how people would be treated, if different regulations were removed to keep companies in check. And corporate america absolutely would grow humans in labs to test things on if they were allowed to.

There's lots of things on the market in real life that contain cancer-causing ingredients. Examples of this include noodles and coca-cola. So it's really no surprise that slurm has been approved. Even cigarette packs contain warning labels about smoking and lung cancer but they're still legal.

@@vetarlittorf1807 Well, I do know Pepsi causes cancer cause I remember seeing an article about it years ago. My cousin told me Coca-Cola causes cancer too but I haven't seen any articles on that, although I did hear some factories made their drinks out of human waste. The scary truth is we don't really know what ingredients are used in the products we consume and whether they cause cancer or not. It seems everyone is at risk of getting cancer at some point in their lives regardless of health or weather they smoke or not.

The tooth thing was addressed when Fry smiled, he drinks so much that his teeth are falling out. One other thing, perhaps the most important part of the ad about slurm, that you didn't mention was that it says it is highly addictive. It's funny that she makes a super highly concentrated form of the slurm since it was always addictive.

On one hand, the Soylent Cola joke is messed up. But on the other hand, in a world with so many aliens coexisting, it wouldn't be entirely farfetched to assume that there are some that would consider humans to be food. And I imagine it's them who came up with the cola in the first place, before it wound up gaining popularity elsewhere. At least enough so that Leela's aware of it.

Two books silent spring and The jungle by Upton Sinclair. Not sure whose silent spring was written by but it's an older book both of them are older books and they talk about how food is made and a lot of it's still pretty relevant today the only thing about silent spring that's inaccurate to today is DDT... It's not used nearly as much as it used to be if it's used at all there's certain areas where it's probably still used carrots and other plants are still soaking it up from decades of putting it down and in mass quantities.
@tookitogo2 жыл бұрын
Silent Spring was by Rachel Carson. DDT is still used to control mosquitoes in parts of the world where malaria is widespread. But rather than spraying clouds of it all over like we did in USA in the 50s, it’s used by soaking mosquito nets (over beds) and by brushing it onto walls of homes. When mosquitoes land on those surfaces to rest, they die. That way, we aren’t indiscriminately getting it into the entire environment.
@dalton61732 жыл бұрын
@@tookitogo it was also released in 1962... Even if they make it illegal then the company just moved one inconsequential peace & technically it's a new chemical so that version is legal & then they release it as reformulated & say it's even better/safer than ever before.

@@dalton6173 There are other vegetables, like kale, that absorb it far more than carrots. Regardless, in USA (if that’s where you’re from), DDT has been banned for 50 years, so we’re really just seeing the last few traces of it. (The environmental half life in soil is 10-15 years, so most of it is gone already, but it’ll be decades still until there’s basically nothing left.) Given DDT’s very low toxicity in humans, DDT traces aren’t anything I’d worry about in the slightest. The pesticides in active use now are a much larger concern.
