Lock 7 was a different experience for us. The lock master was awesome and we actually tied to the wall on the west end of the lock for the night. Maybe the reason they had you go to the port wall was for a malfunction in the lock valves. We didn’t experience turbulence in 7, but in 34 the lock had a “runaway valve” and it banged us all around. We were lucky not to get injured or damage to the boat. Oh, and Hi Candice, awesome to see you back in the videos. ❤️.

I’ve been up the Erie canal many Times. Water is always calmer toward the rear of the locks. Hope you have time to spend the day at the wall in Sylvan Beach. We always enjoy it there

Back when I worked the Canal, they never had the lines and fenders hanging on the lock walls. The barge we pushed was the widest on the canal and we only cleared with maybe 6 inches on either side!

Most boats have right handed props, which means in reverse the prop walk kicks the stern to port. So wind and current aside, port side docking is usually preferred. Lock master at lock 7 probably knows what he's doing. You can see this happen to the guy behind you at 13:37. His stern kicks to port away from the wall when he puts it in reverse. Better to tie up on the other side.

@@LadyKSailing Dunno, never been on the EC. Was it the same going the other way, mostly starboard tie ups? Maybe its SOP, or maybe they're used to motor boats? Point was, prop walk pushes your stern to port not starboard. Got me all triggered ;-).

I want to hit all the waterways I can, because that’s what I’m most experienced at. Why don’t you spend more time on the ocean? I’ve noticed that you’ve repeated routes. On the water I’m sure it’s unique every time. I’ve got nothing against that, but I was wondering if more adventures can be had elsewhere? Is it that much more difficult on the ocean, because I know almost absolutely nothing about sailboats.
