Burnout, not liking my art and not being able to move forward with making my comic has affected me so much; I haven't been able to draw anything. I would sit at my computer and stare at my art supplies feeling so bad because I didn't know what to draw. I'm glad you found a way to love your art again; what you said about social media hit me so hard because it's how I feel. Constantly comparing myself to other artist thinking maybe if I drew like them my art would get liked. I'm still working on trying to erase the voices in my head, but it's such a struggle; I love drawing and I try to improve in a way that I like. Some of the tutorials I watch are just so overwhelming and come from a place saying if you do it this way it is the right way. I'm trying to learn how to like/love the way I draw and color things; I hope to finally be in that place 🙏

Absolutely loved this!!! It is always the best reminder that a sketchbook is for whatever you want it to be. The reminder of just letting yourself draw whatever you want is good!!!!💖💖💖💖

Thank you! 💖 Yes exactly! I think seeing so many beautiful sketchbooks online had me comparing mine to those. Mine is so messy (and even messier now!) but that’s ok! It’s essential as an artist to have a space to freely explore!

It breaks my heart to hear the troubles you went through with imposter syndrome and burnout. It’s also sad to hear artists critique their sketchbooks. We are our own worst critics, aren’t we? You are one of my favorite artists. I had a 21 Draw membership just to attend your class and was a Patreon member for a long time (before I got laid off and cancelled all my memberships). I love your Genshin, Animal Crossing, and Arcane drawings (and just the cute girls you draw in general). I feel like some of Genshin’s newer characters like Navia would be so fun to draw. I love her giant sausage curls 😂 If you want to do any clothes drawing exercises for your sketchbook, I recommend Japanese artist Sakura Oriko. ☺️

Not gonna lie, it was an extremely painful experience to go through. These things were manifesting through my art but in order to heal them I had to face some childhood trauma things. But as difficult as it was, I wouldn’t trade the awareness and healing I’ve gained to make it so it never happened. I think it needed to happen in order for me to grow. 🌱 I think critiquing your own work can be healthy to a degree! Especially learning to laugh instead of cringe at your past self! But when it comes from a place of mean-spiritedness and trying to use hate to fuel yourself to improve I think that’s when it crosses a line. I’ve been meaning to play Genshin again because I really love exploring new areas and 2 have been release since I’ve last played but Baldur’s Gate 3 has had an undying grip on me since January and it’s pretty much all I play now 🙈 Also, thanks for the recommendation! Their work is beautiful! ✨
