Erin has never had surgery before, but she has decided to undergo the minimally invasive Acessa procedure to treat her fibroids. Her pain is too severe to continue on without having surgery. She brings the cameras into her surgery, and we watch as her doctor uncovers & treats all 13 tumors. While inside, Erin’s doctor also diagnoses her with Endometriosis, which she had no idea she was also suffering from.

Erin made the choice because she wanted women to help her tell this story. Production is a male-dominated area, so it is worth mentioning that the all-women crew played a huge role in making this incredible. Hopefully it inspires more women with dreams to work in production to go after them. Production needs more women.

Random Person, Women's health issues in general have in the past been taboo. Our society and culture somehow was delivering the message that these issues were to kept hidden. That it was a woman's role to just deal with the pain and disability and emotional trauma caused by fibroids and endometriosis, for example. Erin, Matt and I believe just the opposite. Only by more awareness and openly discussing such issues can women understand these very common conditions and as a result, receive prompt and appropriate care. It is also our hope that raising awareness of women's health issues will lead to development of more state of the art treatments such as Acessa.

Random Person It actually is if u are in the medical field. And if u go to your ob/gyn or pcp for pap smears as u should. I am very surprised at how many women who watched her go through this don't know about this condition. Shocked, really.

Dr Bruce B Lee Yes. Thank you for showing us that we have this option!!! I have a question though: I know that fibroids can grow back. Can we do anything to prevent them from doing so? Such as hormonal treatments? And if so estrogen such as estradiol or progesterone?

It's definitely something that should be talked of more often-endometriosis and fibroids.... Btw my mom started being diagnosed with fibroids in her uterus towards her time before and currently during menopause. I worry for her daily even though she's not appearing to have immense pain from them. It's scary to see anyone come out of an operation and they're cringing in true pain but it's usually temporary and will pass. Matt has been so sweet and lovely to her...felt so bad for her moaning in pain ;( hopefully she's better now

jade-louise Manby granted the pain is because she has a surgery and has incisions. But I remember I had some diagnostic tests (colonoscopy yuck) and the air they put into you causes so much pain and discomfort. It feels like chugging 20 sodas and not being able to burp or fart the gas out. So that being as painful as it is and having incisions must be horrible. But if it makes her better all the pain will be worth it.

I recently had emergency surgery to remove a softball size endometrioma (ovarian cyst caused by endometriosis) that had begun to leak. A cyst I didn't even know I had. A condition I didn't know I had. I've never felt such pain. My left ovary and fallopian tube also had to be removed. For years I've suffered with chronic pain in my abdomen. Was even treated for small fibroids, but no one ever checked my ovaries. For a period of over four years, countless specialists, and thousands of dollars - I got no answers. Thank you for making this documentary. For getting this information out there. For being so strong. For letting women know they aren't alone. And for instilling the message to be your own advocate for better care. Heal well!! Sending love. 💗

If someone gets divorced from a relative simple procedure then they are not right for each other. Like, what was going to happen if it was something life-threatening? My boyfriend of 3 years broke up with me because I was sad and whiny when my father passed away. Like wtf, dude? You were *SO* not worth it...

Matt is truly amazing. Erin is such a strong woman. I am grateful for this series. Not only is this opening many viewers eyes to the topic, but it just displays how important it is to monitor your own body. There can be different options when you feel lost. Fibroids were something that I had never really understood, until now. As a young woman myself, I am now more aware. Thank you. I can't wait to see (what I hope to be...) Erin feeling better than ever, happy, and free of such pain!

There is so much I like about this series. Not only hearing your experience about what you are and have gone through, the comments have been so helpful as well. This is the first time I would say I have never seen such a positive community and support throughout the comments. I also enjoy reading other people's experiences. This series could not have come at a better time. It gives me a security that my symptoms and daily pain aren't made up. One thing I have learned is, that you know your body best and know that something isn't right. Thanks for sharing your story!

Erin, I am 24 and have never had a pap smear these videos have encouraged me to get one done. They are super important and you have opened my eyes to just how much. Thank you for sharing your strength and pain with us. Hopefully more people like me will take the hint and go get checked out. Matt, you are amazing and your strength through out this for Erin is amazing! You are truly a great human being and a loving husband. Doctor Lee you are amazing! Your ability to think outside the box for a problem like this will hopefully encourage other doctors to take on this practice as well. Women's uterus' are not expendable and I'm happy a male doctor understands that.

I had a laparoscopic myomectomy. They used a Da Vinci surgical robot to remove 8 fibroids from my uterus. It doesn't require a large incision in your abdominal wall. I was able to return to work in 2 weeks. I know a myomectomy was not right for you but it helps so many women get their normal lives back. I hope girls and women who watch this don't shy away from a potentially life changing procedure. I also appreciate you making different options known to people who may be suffering from fibroids. I'm so glad you found your solution. I hope the best for you and your husband.

I just want to say thank you sooo much Erin for bringing light to this subject, I have met so many women suffering from fibroids who feel like they have no way out, or the only option is a hysterectomy. I am undergoing this very procedure in two days and after watching this video you gave me hope and courage to get through everything. I have been suffering now for about 4 years and I am so ready to get this done and over with. Thank you again for allowing us to view this, you are AMAZING!!

I've had approximately 10 laparoscopies in the past 5 years but I've never seen one being performed and it absolutely fascinating. Thank you Erin, Dr Lee and the staff at Clevver for allowing us to go through this journey with you. Personally, it has opened up the dialogue between all of us and as someone who has been fighting polycystic ovarian syndrome and chronic endometriosis for years I now feel like I'm not the only one battling alone anymore. I've been through five surgeries for endometriosis, fibroids & scar tissue. My story is so similar to Erins, unfortunately they couldn't save my uterus. After eight years of constant pain, I couldn't deal with it anymore, It truly overtook my life. Having a hysterectomy at 29 was devistating... but the pain ending was like, a new lease on life. I am so proud of Erin, so thankful she is sharing her story & journey. I wish we all had a Doctor Lee, what an incredible man. Thank you Clever for getting this out there, we don't need to suffer in pain, there are options for us.

I am so grateful that we live in a time that we have medical tech that can help things things like this that cause so much pain in people's everyday lives. People who are so intelligent and are able to help people with things like this that are so intense and are so hard for people to go through. People are so strong.

what I found to be the most painful part of this surgery is when the gas that they fill your abdomen with seeps out of your shoulders and back! It hurts so bad! I took a back massager & had my husband massage my back for 2 hrs because it's so excruciating on top of the abdominal pain. I'm so sorry you had to go through this, but when you get off that table it's the 1st day of the rest of your life! I can't wait for you to get pregnant, it's the best feeling in the world to see the + sign on that test after thinking that you might not be able to conceive. Best of luck to you Erin & I'm praying for a quick recovery. 💜

I'm so grateful that this series has come out when it has.. For the last two years I've been getting abnormal results on my papsmears, I had surgery last year to remove cells. Yesterday I found out that I might have to have the surgery again. The more surgeries I have the weaker my uterine lining gets and the less likely it will be for me to be able to have children.. I know it's not the same thing Erin's going through, but it's comforting seeing another woman go through something similar and being so strong. So thankyou x
