Coming from palakkad. We also add yam along with raw banana and the coconut we roast further brown for garnishing such that when we pour over the erissery we hear a mild crackling sound 🙂

My mil makes with drumstick and yellow pumpkin too. She adds coconut fried with urad dal red chilli and curry leaves in coconut oil. Along to the coconut paste

The variant of Eriserri (may be from my Grandma who’s from Ernakulam) that I am used to has Urid dhal, Pepper, Red chillies and coconut dry roasted and ground into a paste that directly gets added into the Yam/Raw banana boiled with turmeric & salt. Seasoning is the the same. (No dhal or asafoetida). It tastes almost like molagootal. Anyways good one Rakesh

Awesome ..a must have for Ona-Sadya. We also add a dash of pepper powder while cooking the raw banana. Another variant is mix of raw-banana and chena kezhangu. It's also made with raw pumpkin. An all time classic dish.

You must fry pepper jeera red chillies nd cocnut in ghee nd grind nd add to the boiled kela or yam.no haldi nd mirchi req.give a seasoning in coconut oil only with just curry leaves nd hing.try it.tastes yummy

Kerala erruseri is different, has pepper and the Chennai vazhakai are cut differently. Receipes need not conform but some traditional recipes have a norm. This looks more like kootu. Eruserri does not have paruppu

There is NOTHING called a RIGHT Erisseri. It differs among many communities in Kerala

Rakesh Raghunathan yes but erisseri does not have Dhaal in any form in any part of Kerala either. Some add karamani beans and they cook with pepper and not chili powder either. At the least let’s not confuse the native dish claiming it’s done in certain places of Kerala

I make this with Chenai as well as vazhakkai. I add black pepper in the eruseri too. I guess there are several varieties of eruseri.
