Although there is no 1 universally agreed upon definition of the term, people that believe in anarchism (me included) typically believe that society shouldn't be organized in a way where some groups of people are superior and others are subordinate. Anarchism and libertarianism aren't completely separate things and are oftentimes considered synonymous. Though in the US, libertarians are usually staunchly pro-capitalist which is why many people make a distinction between the two terms nowadays.

The gameplay of A hand with many fingers would be great for a Call of Cthulhu game or maybe a horror anthology where your investigation influences the narrative. It would be a bit like stumbling upon the X-Files filing cabinet where it is just as likely that you could find the alien conspiracy or a secret demon cult, or which famous personalities are really lizard people. Just not sure which game series/mechanics I would pick for the horror/action elements.

That was my game of 2020, and maybe the best detective game I've ever played. Despite that, it seems to get very little love aside from some great reviews. I think you'd adore its aesthetic!!

I recommend Paradise Killer, on the same lines of Lucifer Within Us. Just one case, but big and sprawling over a whole island, with a completely bonkers vaporwavey setting and really convoluted mystery. I enjoyed it a lot.

I've played two Blips so far: Diaries of a Spaceport Janitor and Broken Reality. I haven't finished either, but I did like them. Diaries especially. I found it a very effective simulator of being poor, chronically ill and marginalized (for as far as I can judge that) without being heavy-handed or overly depressing, which I imagine is a fine line. There's definitely a lot of "arthouse games" that offer something new and interesting.

23:47 *Roguelikes* I played Enter the Gungeon for a bit and it really pissed me off when I discovered that buying guns just added to the gun pool rather than letting me make choices as to what I took going in. It's like a deck builder game where you can't get cards out of your deck. The more I discovered the less likely I was to actually get something I wanted. Not to mention I had no idea how to deal with the bullet hell bosses.

Okay, I started playing Venineth and I managed to beat the first row of levels. I have never played marble games and I generally don't enjoy puzzles. This game? *_I'm loving all of it!_* Also, I have different designation for this game's particular subgenre. It's a parkour game... where you just happen to be a weighted marble, pulled from within. I even managed to fail forward couple of puzzles simply by being stupidly precise and persistent with my momentum, bounces and angles, as you've suggested in a video: the physics and save spot system in this game is very accomodating for getting style points from imaginary judge panel. :P

I really wanted to like Venineth, because the overall visuals and art just look super interesting and are totally my jam, but the sound design of the game is so underwhelming. Yes, the marble controls very heavily, but the feeling isn't there. Ruins the whole experience for me, because the marble doesn't really interact with this strange environment at all, besides those switches. Would be so much better with heavy clunky sounds and a dusty shockwave when that big chungus smashes on the ground for example. So much better! Give that marble some personality! And than make a strand genre game with it! Cowards!

Seriously, though, the idea that heavy-handed messaging is bad writing largely comes from a CIA-led propaganda campaign during the Cold War meant to discourage political dissent. The Lucifer one caught my attention in a way that felt weird and a little uncomfortable. On the one hand, "ein sof" (with the first word pronounced to rhyme with "rain," rather than as if it were German) is one of the titles of G-d in Hebrew; it literally means "no end" = "the infinite." The screenshots also seem to have a whole lot of Hebrew names in them. And yet "Lucifer" is a distinctly Roman/Christian concept, as is the character name Augustine. It kind of makes me wonder what's going on there, and what the makers intended with it. It doesn't help that something about the graphics reminded me of Hades, and I'm not exactly hyped about the idea of someone treating Judaism - a living religion - in the same way that other game makers have treated the Greek (or Norse, etc.) mythologies.

I've had my eye on Veneneth for a while actually, since it seems like something I had been looking for for a very long time. Way back in the early days of XBLA on the 360, one of my favourites from that era was a game called Switchball, which was pretty similar in concept. A marble puzzle platformer where you could change the state of your marble to solve puzzles. Not only was I impressed with the puzzle design, at the time it was really something impressive to look at as well. It may be pretty modest by modern standards, but I remember that being an early example of me being impressed with dynamic lighting, and the sort of Myst-like aesthetic of it. Ever since then I've been on the lookout for something similar, and nothing quite seems to get it right. Veneneth looks like the best thing to scratch that itch though. It seems different in some ways, but that puzzle focused design mixed with surreal and impressive environments, with an emphasis on high fidelity material and lighting effects looks like it should be something I can get in to.

I don't think Hades and Going Under are using the run mechanic all that differently. By the "end" of Hades Zagreus is literally and employee of Hades' domain. The relationships between the characters are often framed in terms of work relationships (they are colleagues, managers, rivals in different branches etc.) and it's one of the dimension that puts them in tension with each other. Medusa especially is a good example of this. One of the strains between Hades and Zagreus is that Zagreus couldn't do the grind of an office clerk. And as the game progresses these aspects of the game became more and more prevalent. What differs is the perspective. Hades looks at the world from a point of privilege, Going Under from a point of relative lack of power. But the underlying framework is similar as well, where work is ultimately a means of expressing oneself and working through your relationships; alienation comes when a job doesn't let you be your true self and workplace dysfunctions are a problem of personal pathology (like the Joblin boss who asks people work as hard as he is willing to work).

the problem with investigation games is that most people who are actually into such things have the same experience of their hobby by actually doing something good - making research in government archives for a monography, filling wikipedia pages, crossreferencing ancient dead actors or forgotten foreign movies for the imdb, going deep into 3rd world search engines to find information on a book for goodreads etc etc like you can't buy 7 million dollars combines to be a farmer outside of 30$ farming simulator you can't get a license and take responsibility for real lives outside of bus simulator but you can do real life investigation from your home on grandma's half dead laptop with 5$ internet connection and every foreign language dictionary, e-mail contacts of foreign archive officials and any biggest database or even hobbyist forum with an audience like, main wikipedaya is really deep into their own politics, admin elections and more concerned about that roleplay stuff than the articles, but imdb or goodreads have minimum of foreign entries and even fiction stuff like dc or marvel wikia have tons of work. missing connections and broken links to fill open to anybody who wants to do some research

I mostly liked Lucifer Within Us, but I feel like Phoenix Wright is an apt comparison, in that it includes a lot of the same flaws of that games mechanics alongside the good bits. In particular, a lot of the time, I felt like I had found a fairly obvious contradiction between evidence and statement, but the game would just come back with a generic "I see no contradiction" message, which was kinda frustrating. Occasionally the characters would recognise a potential issue I had and brush off the contradiction with a specific excuse, but those were few and far between, and I feel like it could have used a lot more of those kind of lines to smooth over some of the frustrations.

Colestia's thing is pretty overt polemics and I wouldn't have it any other way tbh. Way too many games hint around it these kind of leftist ideals and it's nice to have it just be text sometimes. Honestly one of the most exciting indie devs out there.
