Oh man, you mentioned fetchlands and I immediately paused and spent almost five minutes rattling off all the different uses for them. There's almost nothing about them that's individually too powerful but damn do they have so many good uses and strategies that they enable. I honestly think it might be my favorite cycle of cards.

You included footage from a Mitos y Leyendas championship! There's even a bunch of 10 chilean peso coins in one of the frames!! I'm so happy to see my country in your videos, even if I grew away from the game about 15 years ago. Holly crap I'm old as fuck, wait, this means MyL has been going on for ... 22 years now???? This probably makes our TCG one of our oldest and probably most trusted national institutions.

Sooo YGO despite being one of the big 3 has the following from which don't learn lessons from... 1- Lack of counterplay due to heavy randomness given there is no resource system in the game 2- The most power creep of any game 3- Accretion, but only on the complexity side without any actual depth. Since the game almost never innovates in mechanics and when it does, tends to be Super Flawd (XYZ anyone can do anything since good things became super generaic, Pendulum ... HA!, Links also autopilot).... But its Ok, an alternative must exist for people that want to play easy mode games 👍🏻

tbh on the contrary i think yugioh has too much counterplay now. the fact that a standard 'meta' board has like 4-5 negates now is just straight painful. 1-2 at max should be the expectation. power creep is there becuase it just never rotates and thats just like'why' acretion is an issue for sure but it has this problem becuase its an anime first and formost and each in show duel has to be unique and interesting. every series has to stand out from its predeccesor. each series needs a new mechanic becuase they've made it an unwritten rule now. but hey at least speed duels exist (and by which i mean the printed format, not duel links which they also ruined)

@@chaoticjexak realize how contradictory your statement is.... If Ur opponent was able to set up 4-6 negations, its because its very generic and easy to do overall and there is a lack of counterplay to it (U have the negation on board or hand already to counter it... U have it or U don't) which makes it a vicious cicle in the end
@chaoticjexak

@@JaimeAGB-pt4xl there is counterplay its just very one sided. one side can do all the interaction stuff while the other usually cannot. but instead of limiting turn one's ability to create counterplays, they made a few hand traps, which surprise surprise also help turn one player. this is why counterplay taken to its logical conclusion sucks. you cannot counter the counter. the better move is to have no counters at all and let both players actually be able to 'go off'.
@JaimeAGB-pt4xl

@@chaoticjexak counterplay is... by nature... interactive between the parties at play. Which is the reason why most games opt for a resource base system (mana, metal, energíes) because if Ur opponent doesn't have the answer at the moment, they have time to react and/or draw their answer... But, YGO has no resource base system, and instead of limiting abusive mechanics (spec summon) or non-interactive gameplay (solemns or most extra deck monsters now), they continued to power creep the game to absurd levels, in which they successfully fooled their players into believing complexity=depth and memorizing Ur combos (that take forever with pre-made archetypes for the players) can be called skill

@@JaimeAGB-pt4xl counterplay is by nature the ability for one or both parties to interact with the board state of the other. you can have games where neither does, or where one does, or where both do. both parties don't have to be able to interact with the other, only one side. in this case though, that is toxic counterplay, where such is incredibly one sided like greenblue control vs a more amateur player. or pretty much the entirety of the yugioh meta. its giving the counterplay options to the wrong side (turn one in this case) without providing sufficient options for the turn 2 player (or alternatively, not having so much going on in turn 1 to result in 4-5 negates) good counterplay is about balance. bad counterplay just results in 1 party being unable to do anything becuase their plays just get countered (even incluing their own attempts to counterplay sometimes). also I don't agree on that being the reason for power creep. other games do also use a resourceless system and don't have nearly the same issue. power creep arises when powerful cards aren't allowed to 'rotate out' of legal play to be replaced by nerfed versions or different stratagies. BA existing for as long as it did is a key example of this. BA should have just been allowed to rotate out like 2-3 years after it was released. complexity can be deep if done right. combos are fun, especially 'unintended' ones (as in, using pieces outside of the intended archetype). but yes. yugioh lacks 'good' counterplay. you can say the current state lacks it and that is technically correct in of itself, but the only way imo something could lack counterplay is by having no interaction at all- and to be fair i would actually prefer that. card games should be more about building a true power combo instead of preventing the other player from playing.
