Christie was a highly decorated amateur, winning everything that could be won. As a result, he was highly touted as a pro and for a spell was under the tutelage of the late, great Emmanuel Steward out of the famous Kronk Gym in Detriot - that's how high expectations of him were. In a way what happened to him kind of reminds me of the fate that befell Don Curry, in that they both suffered a sort of burnout because of so many amateur fights. Michael Watson should have gone on to be world champ and was minutes away from being so when Chris Eubank landed that tragic punch in their rematch for the WBO Super middleweight title. All credit to him for making such a good recovery. Enjoyed the upload and trip down (boxing's) memory lane - thanks.

Christie must have shown a weak chin in sparring many times

Putting Errol into the ring with that Belgian light heavy weight was the end of him, lost his legs after that stoppage, totally took his chin and legs . Terrible management decision to put him in with a light heavy weight. . Before that fight, Errol was a class above anyone and would have been a world champion, and would have beat Benn, Watson and Eubank.
