Love Errol's words here. Documentary, non-fiction filmmaking is a pursuit of the truth, and it doesn't matter how it is done stylistically. What matters is the filmmaker's openness to discover, to be amazed, to be proven wrong about prior notions. The subject is paramount. Inspirational words.

Could listen to Errol talk all day. One of the most versatile and well read directors with effort put into every sentence. Few take the time in interviews to sit back and think about their response like him.

'Gates of Heaven' is probably the most underrated movie of all time, and one of the greatest. It's strange how a simple movie about pet cemetery's can contain within it most of the questions and obsessions man has in his lifetime. I've never seen a more spiritual film, or a funnier one.

Agreed. This film is a masterpiece that should be made part of every school's curriculum. I was made to watch the "Electric Company" PBS TV show weekly in grade school. This should be mandatory viewing in grade school with mandatory discussion points. It contains hundreds of critical discussion points.

"Everyone told me I was doing it wrong." Probably the best way to know you're doing it right.

I've seen, "Gates of Heaven" maybe 3 times? The truth I got out of it, is that humans are crazy. When I first saw it, I was still in the mindset of most people are ok, and society has an order. It opened my eyes to the fact that people are emotional, nutty, and really unreliable. His placement of the camera, and his editing are amazing. He records the truth. And he is a genius.

and this is why he will always be a better documentary filmmaker than michael moore who does nothing but embellish things.

True. He is moore of a manipulative politician than a filmmaker.
