I pulled the Mark Whitten card. There are 4 sets for 1991 Topps. 792 where the backs have faded logo that don’t glow and 792 that do glow. There are 255 cards that have bold anniversary logo that glow and don’t glow. During pandemic my buddy and opened every possible type of pack and we each put together all 4 sets. I also pulled 3 1971 cards that were in wax packs.

We opened probably various styles of packs totaling 50k cards to get those sets. It was fun.

Do you remember what kind of packs they were? Wax?

@ at some point Topps switched from traditional wax to cellophane “wax” packs. Cellophane wax packs and every other style had the chance of getting the 4 types.

@@thepastisalive I have 12 complete sets of 792 card set with glow backs and was only able to put together 4 sets of 792 card set with non glow backs. I am 1 dark logo glow card away from completing another complete “master” set. I have a 3200 count box of 1991 Topps that I bought a year ago to still sort. I opened it last week to take a quick look.

I get the point about Beckett and listing book value on the back of the card, and in most cases the seller has VG cards priced at full book value and that is kinda hilarious and perhaps even greedy or delusional, and indeed a lot of the old-timers still use Beckett to price their cards - but I do as well - (at least to some extent) when pricing vintage, and I do indeed put book value on the back of the card as well. However I deal in a lot of high-grade raw vintage cards, and when I have desirable high-grade vintage cards I have no problems pricing it at full book - if not higher.. I suppose on face value it makes me appear like "one of those guys" but my prices reflect the grade of the card. After being in the hobby for 35+ years dealing primarily in vintage I know just how rare and desirable legitimate "pack fresh" crispy high-grade cards are so I'm generally going to want a premium when I know (and usually the buyer knows) that particular card in that condition is extremely rare and will receive a high grade if submitted... I mean I usually price cards according to grade unless the card has an unusual quality that makes the card exceptional from most others, like a perfectly centered 1979 Ozzie Smith rookie with weak corners for example - a card that would grade VG - I'd want a premium for that even if the card is physically in VG. Keep in mind book value is placed on cards in Near-Mint condition so it's not all that delusional to want book value on a card that clearly grades higher than near-mint condition.. I mean obviously cards can grade much higher than "near-mint" when near-mint usually translates to a 7 to 7.5 on the grading scale... Of course my prices on lower grade cards totally reflect that. For example - I just priced a handful of 1980 Topps while listening to this video and I have several Ozzie Smith 2nd year cards (one of the most aesthetically pleasing cards of the set BTW - second only to the Henderson) and the card books at $25 and I have a couple of perfectly centered gorgeous razor sharp pack-fresh copies and I want $30 bucks each - but I also have several copies in EX-NM and I priced them at $8-12 bucks, then I have one in VG that's off-center with "fuzzy" semi-rounding corners I priced at $4 bucks, which IMO is a totally reasonable price... I suppose my point is that eBay certainly will always be the real price guide, but Beckett can be useful if it's used the way it's intended to be used...
