This that kit I showed the painted cab several months back. I finally got around to finishing it. All used parts except for the decals. They are from the new AMT Transtar 4070! kit.

Love to see glue bombs get a new life and this one turned out sweet! I've built quite a few of these kits and I shortened the frames on most of them too. They just look more like the ones I grew up around in the early 70's in eastern Pa. Very nice work John!

I like to redo the old ones. When they come out nice it is rewarding. All the new trucks these days are all about wind drag. No style like the old ones!
@captainmorgan11073 жыл бұрын
@@JohnsRailroad I agree. The "newest" models I've built were the old Italeri Western Star 4964 and Freightliner conventionals from the 80's. I prefer the golden age of the 60's and 70's kits. The only modern truck I find interesting is the International Lonestar since it looks tough and it's definitely different than all the T600 clones everyone else is producing. I haven't posted any on KZbin but if you're bored one day google Jim Gavin on Flickr to check them out

Can believe what these models are going for these days...I used to buy them between 12.00 - 23.00 Back in those days

Well your lucky because before this reissue they were hundreds. I still have 3 from when I was a kid still sealed. Paid only 10 bucks for them at Coast to Coast and Kmart. Always a birthday present.
@JohnsRailroad3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I kind like redoing old kits almost better than new kits.

I am just now working on the new edition and trying to figure out the paint scheme I want. I was thinking about a red color with those decals but was wondering if they were opaque enough to cover the red. Now I know, they look great. Very nice build by the way.
@JohnsRailroad3 жыл бұрын
The decals are not 100% opaque, I would say 85-90. I realized that when I over lapped them. But they are still very cool. Thanks.

That looks really good. We use to modify those kits with six wheel drive and all kinds of things using Kenworth conditionals. Not nit picking but did you forget the rear mud flaps?
@JohnsRailroad3 жыл бұрын
You can do a lot with them. No I just don't have an extra set of flaps intact. All the ones I got were broke. At some point I will add some.

@@JohnsRailroad you're very welcome and I took my driving test in one of these in the 80 and I have a liking to them two I have two original kits sealed a A and a B and four of the new kits lol

I have quite a collection my self. Since I was a kid I liked the International trucks.

John + you see how long the frame/ chassis is on these new kits just like the older ones from the 1970s I will be shortening the frame as well I also noticed to posted a picture of this tractor a long with an ameco tanker trailer sorry I missed spelled that I thought that look great I am building the same tanker trailer it's the 1970s all over again love it I am building the Texaco tanker tractor trailer I will be building a diroma for it off loading gas in underground storage tanks in a gas station got all the stuff to build this with can you do a video desplaying that truck with the tanker trailer
@JohnsRailroad2 жыл бұрын
These are great kits. I have several sealed ones from the 70's. They were valuable before the re release. I always cut the frame down. I do not know why they had them so long. I built the tanker about 30 years ago. I just use it for pictures. We'll see about a video. Thanks
