He rarely looks down at the keyboard of the vibes. Norvo was an innovator that does not get the credit he deserves for his body of work.

Love the rhythmic / harmonic counterpoint Kessel plays on the head. Plus his solo is boss...

Man absolutely tore this song apart, yet STILL managed to stay melodic, and true to the tune. Norvo is a genius Lol, Barney Kessel came out of nowhere, didnt notice it was him till past halfway. I was wondering why the comping was so good

It's a true shame this doesn't get more views than this.. This is a true piece of art, Norvo's brilliant solo gets me everytime. I can't do much more than succumb to the rhythm, the mood and just simply tap my foot in approval while letting the music flow through my body. Brilliant, beyond description.

George Simon, the one-time drummer who gave up his sticks for music criticism said that Red Norvo's band/orchestra was "the best" in the swing era. That takes in a lot of cats. Red's wife, Mildred Bailey was in her day "one of the three white goddesses" according to Will Friedlander, along with Connie Boswell ( a model for Ella) and Lee Wiley. Thanks to KZbin, the feast goes on.

This is so f'n cool. If it were up to me the vibraphone would be a much bigger part of music today. People give guys like Miles Davis and Louie Armstrong so much credit, but dudes like Red Norvo and Chet Baker fall by the wayside when it comes to the discussion about musical geniuses. It doesn't seem fair to me.

Look at the expression on Red's face whilst he is playing - it's almost as if he is saying "thank you so much for inviting me here to play for you - I'm loving' every minute". I've been a fan of his for many years now. . . . . .

That a Kick in the Head?". Esta exquisita versión de "Girl from Ipanema" fue grabada en directo en Copenhague en 1974 y aunque el sonido no es perfecto me encanta. #ClassicMonday #Bossa #Jazz

Married to the great jazz singer Mildrid Bailey. Midrid was a member of the Couer d' lane tribe of Indians. She was considered the first great "white" Jazz singer even though she was half Indian. She also knew Bing Crosby who was a partner of her brother. She helped them get their start and they in turn introduced her to Paul Whiteman and she became his lead singer. Just came to hear what she sounded like. Wonderful, better times, when people acted as if.

I don't think it's 1974, but 1969. I saw them in Paris during this tour.
