Thank you for all you are doing. I’m so sorry for what you are going through. The yellow piping in the river floating was from Poly pipe. Different business in the industrial park. Impact plastic did not make kind of stuff. I live in middle TN but my entire family is from Erwin and I lived there, still come to visit and consider it home. I can’t believe what has happened. I cried when I saw your video of the river road between Embreeville and Erwin. I’m actually coming home this Thursday to see my family and obviously not getting to drive that beautiful little stretch of heaven on earth. ☹️. Prayers for you, your family and the cove community 🙏

Just seeing this, 5pm on 10/8/24--i hadn't heard this very sad news about plastics company and I've been looking for news for last whole week of aftermath. Did not hear about it. Thanks for sharing it.

It reminds me of the candle factory that got hit by the Mayfield, KY, tornado. They didn’t let them leave, either. Most of them died there, too.

My mom & stepfather were trying to make it back to West Virginia from those areas in North Carolina after spending a week to attend a wedding on Saturday. They got to the Tennessee border before learning the bridge washed out. She told me about the hospital near it. Lucky for a trucker from Charlotte who gave them directions from roads he just traveled up for them to get home. They saw a lot of the aftermath. Sad situation all around.

The CEO of Impact Plastics made a statement that was mostly heartless self defense. He denies the employees were told to stay put. He also feels because the ones that perished didn’t die on company property, that he can’t be held accountable. 😕
@droutdoors4560Ай бұрын
At the end of the day one of the higher ups definitely made a bad decision and held them there for way to long. Anyone who works a factory job knows they would have been out of there just as soon as they had permission to leave and from what I’ve heard by that point it had already nearly swallowed the whole parking lot. In that situation you evacuate your employees long before water touches your parking lot. I am going to try and find the interview I watched last week of the employee to link in the comments because I’ve heard many conflicting things about what they were told. I’ve also heard that the CEO has tried to put blame on one of the supervisors which was one of the people who died. Blame a man who can’t speak for himself. I don’t know if it’s true because like I say I haven’t been able to look into it much because I barely have enough signal at home to just reply to a few comments before I go to bed

@@droutdoors4560 get some rest, my good man. The mainstream news channels got the interview out to the public of the man who was visibly upset that he lost coworkers because they were not given permission in time to leave. He feels survivors guilt and he stated that they should not have even been working that day. I saw today that 5 bodies have been recovered of the 6 employees that were swept away. Seems like the national news is under reporting but your local channels in your area are doing a decent job. KZbinrs are doing a phenomenal job even with the considerable obstacles. We respect the heck out of yas!

@@droutdoors4560 Sadly I fully believe it. On a smaller scale, I used to work in a department store and we were caught in a blizzard, on the day all the regional managers were in our store for a meeting. They refused to close the store, and told us that anyone who left early wouldn't be paid for the day. At the time I was only 17 and still learning to drive (In the UK you can only start learning at 17, and it's a slow process.) In the end, by the time I got out, all the buses had long stopped, and even the road to my home was closed. I had to beg a lift from someone to get me halfway home, and my dad came and met me at the side of the motorway. The store still hadn't closed when I left - it was over 2 hours later, as I heard afterwards. These management types don't care about the staff on the ground. It's just a numbers game for them. I'm heartbroken by the whole tragedy you're facing, but honestly, the fact that some of these deaths were fully avoidable, makes it so, so much worse. Those people weren't staying in danger's way out of ignorance or their own free will. They were trapped.

Something I wonder is what did coming into work that day accomplish? Whatever production they had finished that day was probably swept away by the flood. And six people had to die for that. It's just sad and senseless. The fact that the CEO told them to stay despite knowing he dangers means he is probably facing jail time.

Dang, so sad to see all that area by the shelter like that. I noticed the coil of pipe from Impact in your other video, i've seen those spools many times driving up to Flagpond. And also my mom and I went to the shelter to walk some of the dogs a few years ago along the walkway next to the river. Another thing of note also is that the radio station building was completely washed away. There was a video from the people on the hospital of the radio station floating down the river. Its so crazy and sad all that happened. Especially with Impact.

I understand that I 26 is cut due to the double bridge loss over the Nolichucky. Id have thought that they would have worked out a detour through Erwin,😢 crossing the Herbert Love Bridge, to catch 26 below the collapse by now. Theyve got 26 closed all the way up to the North Carolina border. Were there rock slides in the higher elevations? Is Herbert Love teetering? WTH?
