26:48 It's funny how there's some mirroring between Zeke and Erwin. When their father carelessly told their forbidden beliefs to their son, they met their own downfall.

True, and, in a at least slight way, same with Armin's parents (if what's said is true), and even Kruger's father too.
@Koroto Жыл бұрын
For sure! Inherited "wars" and the nightmares that brings is a constant through line in the AoT story, with only a few characters managing to break out of that cycle (hence the cruel yet beautiful world). I think the titan inheritance process itself is a pretty good concentration of those themes. Most of the time, they inherit the power, the memories as well as the conflicts that came before (think Eren, Zeke, all of the warrior unit etc)

@Koroto you're not often wrong, but you are here (probably because you're being too modest). There are plenty channels out there with similarly long takes but that's the problem. It's just a take followed by ramblings, whereas you take a very thorough, analytical approach that dissects it to the core and then views it at any and all angles comprehensively. A true student of AOT. You deserve all the positive accolades you get in each your videos!

I’ve been rewatching AOT with my mom, who has never seen it before. It’s so cool to see all the foreshadowing of the Marley warriors and the tiny details hinting at the truth (especially with the added help of watching these retrospective overanalyses), and it’s even funnier when my mom has no clue haha. We just finished season 1, and I’m hyped to show her the rest of the anime
@cricketjuices Жыл бұрын
yo I did the same thing! my dad's always been a bit skeptical of anime, but he's a huge history/WWII buff and I knew he'd be totally invested once we got to season 4 with all the Marley stuff. it was so fun watching him try to figure out what the hell was going on throughout haha. enjoy the rewatch with your mom!

The thing is that Erwin _is_ acting selfishly, he _doesn't_ have others' best interest in mind. It just so happens that his selfish desire of finding out the truth of their world and thereby honoring the memory of his father also aligns with what's better for humanity. That has always been his motivation. Sure he does also care about what's right for humanity, but it's a secondary desire. That's why he has a crisis of self before his death. That he won't be able to see the fulfillment of the truth, of the basement, even after butchering so many people. That's why Levi commands him to die, and I think a big reason why Levi chose to save Armin over Erwin. Erwin finally aimed for something beyond himself, he finally truly aimed for bettering humanity. But his gaze ended at that basement, his gaze ended at his own selfish desire to redeem himself to his father. Armin's gaze ended at the ends of the earth, to the sea and beyond. If Erwin were to live beyond that point, it would sully his sacrifice, it would sully what he finally managed to achieve. And if we take his arm knocking the syringe away from him as an active movement, then he is staying by his achievement of putting Armin, putting humanity, before his own selfish wants. To go against that would only make him fail that higher purpose, it would make Levi a bad friend to Erwin.

A lot of people in the story are selfish. Ymir and historia literally say they only care for each other. Eren it's about the dream of the sea and for his friends to be happy. It's just they made the one guy that seemed selfless have one true desire. Yet he's not making up for his selfishness in his sacrifice. He's showing that you must put ones selfish desires for the sake of the greater good. He shows at multiple points he's willing to die if it means humanity moves for.

I don't think there is any redeeming factor in Historia's mother not actually killing her daughter. If Rod had wanted Historia dead from her birth, he'd have gotten rid of her. And if he didn't have her killed himself, chances are that he would have his mistress executed for killing his child. So her killing Historia would only have turned out to be essentially a double suicide with a delayed effect on herself.

I always thought Isayama gave Historia her “Crista Lenz” name as a play on words… how if you really analyze her upbringing through a CRYSTAL LENS it really just spells out the whole story of AoT. Well atleast the few simlarites that Historia and Ymir shared
@fernandaaguilar8590 Жыл бұрын
That was my take when I watched the first time,too. Her back story brings clarity to the story at that point. And her true name “History” tells that she’s connected to the history of humanity as we know it inside the walls.

My absolute favorite thing about AoT (something you do an incredible job detailing) is that it uses the principle of Chekov's gun the way it's intended. Nothing you ever see on screen is unintentional, it all serves a purpose in the story.
@CrashBandicootFan100 Жыл бұрын
Just wanna point at the post-credit scene of the finale. So yeah spoilers. Edited like seven times including this to mention the amount of edits; apologies for my ramblings, and great video as usual. The kid mirrors Ymir's discovery of the tree. The Titan Power is now a clean slate, no more curse or being bound to Ymir's wishes. There are clear differences between them: future kid isn't being chased by dogs, isn't wounded, and is going into the tree of their own volition, no urgency- but exploration. We don't see the same raw instinct, despair, hatred, and desires that Ymir had. Which we imagine - her desires are what shaped those powers. So someone with far less trauma, desperation, no stockholm syndrome> may be a better fit for this power that is moulded by the person's very nature. On top of that the Paths were really Ymir's grip on the Eldian people, desire for connection. She spent most of her life and afterlife desiring connection from the wrong person> Fritz. Mikasa showing that she could still chose the selfless path despite her love, and kill Eren.

You're looking at monarch legitimacy backwards: it's not that Historia claimed to be the monarch (and legitimately had a claim), it's that the military successfully orchestrated a coup and using their power, they declared Historia as Monarch. After that, we look at the 3 M's of power - money, military, media. They had control of the latter two and it's a reasonable inference that the clean coup granted them access to the nation's treasury. They can use that to dictate their message. They use Historia's claim to claim legitimacy to limit the opposition to their rule but the reality is, they establish a military dictatorship and Historia is, in many ways, a puppet.

Not entirely, though they are very close. Generally speaking, people use "devil" to specifically refer to Satan/Lucifer/Whatever else you may call him (ie, the ultimate evil power), while "demons" generally refer to his minions. That said, "devils" CAN be used in the place of "demons", but it's relatively rare. It doesn't work the other way around though (no one ever calls Satan "The Demon". We only call him "The Devil").
