I've had my set for 7 yrs. Love it. I got a stove liner at the dollar store and cut out a wind break for this set that will nest in the larger pot around the solid fuel stand. Really quickens boil times and adds no weight or space. I always keep 2 Esbit tabs inside the alcohol burner. Yesterday I boiled water for coffee and two oat meal packets using 2 tabs. It was 7 degrees F. with a light wind. Add a br3000 burner and you have 3 ways to cook. It's the bomb!

The rain was a nice touch. 11 minutes is not bad time. Every body else uses 250ml of water and boils in 6 minutes or more and they all seem happy. I have a couple of m1950 gas stoves that boil water in a flash for their size. Great review, and in the end,not a bad little set. Thank you for the video, Dean

Thanks! Yes, I'm staying warm, but I've been in the middle of home renovations so videos got shifted to the back burner till later in April.

Hello Dean, will you be making anymore videos?

2018 was a really tough year. Several medical issues and a few deaths in the family, Plus, the property I normally shoot videos on has been bought by a new owner, and we're not sure what his plans are except they involve heavy machinery and that's impossible to shoot with all that noise. But yes, as soon as things warm up a bit I'll be shooting some more videos. Thanks for the concern.

thanks for confirming the fuel specs::::> white gas vs meth, butane, propane, etc. My little SVEA123 has percolated along since the '70's. I tried ALL the rest, thinking that my first choice couldn't be the best choice...but it HAS been.

Believe it or not, I first learned that information 30 years ago from a book on how to build a still. I checked those numbers a few years later, too, and they were accurate.

Hi Dean. It would interesting to see you cook something besides water with your cook kits sometime. Not a criticism, a request.

Dose the 123R fit inside the pot and lid with or without the 123R lid?
@AlbertaBushcrafter6 жыл бұрын
I tried it, and it didn't really fit well. I'm testinhg a couple of new Stanley pots that might, though.

I'm new to your channel. Have been watching several bushcraft videos of late. I'm in Calgary. Have you a recommendation for locations for a beginner bushcrafter /camper who wants to steer well away from RV and glamping sites?
@AlbertaBushcrafter4 жыл бұрын
That's one of the best questions I've had in years. I'm working on a video for this as I have a theory. Any site that's within an hour of a major city is almost certain to be an RV, glamping and drunken bush party site. Within 90 minutes, it's less so but there are exceptions. But if you're willing to drive about 2 hours, the sites are pretty decent and you can find some real gems. Plus, watch out for the "Provincial" campsites run by private companies - a.k.a. "resorts" - as they seem to attract the RV and drunken barn dance crowd, at least on long weekends. Hope that's a start - stay tuned for more.

I'm thinking of heading down by Cypress Hills way when the weather finally warm sup.

@@calgarycolt Nice spot, but be prepared. In some cases the water can be alkaline (and thus undrinkable even with a filter). That's the case for a lot of Alberta campgrounds, though, so I carry a Sawyer Mini with me anyway even for car camping. The only other thing I suggest is if you are car camping, try to pack everything (including firewood) as the local and "resort" stores and gas stations have exorbitant prices.
